Getting an Oyster missed touch refund - visiting London

Afternoon everyone, Last week I visited London with my family in tow, doing lots of sightseeing etc. On our last day we travelled from Bond Street - Paddington (officially to see the Paddington statue, but really I wanted a quick trip on the Elizabeth Line!), then onwards to Hammersmith (H+C...

Trivia: Nicknames / slang that are widely accepted?

A procedure known as 'Pushing' in Manchester We know it as Marge Simpsons Knickers, particularly from the back... you'll never unsee it now! The only two I can think of are, slightly derogatory ones! Streetsh*te - A Wright Streetlite, for obvious reasons! A Sh*tter - service 163 Manchester to...

    Most circuitous bus route

There's a fun one between Bolton and Bury which I used to work: 471: 25 mins (direct via Breightmet) 524: 45 mins (via Radcliffe and Little Lever) 511: 60 mins (via various estates and villages) The best bit about the 511 was you used to pass the 471s the 'wrong way' at Breightmet, so had a...

Coaches stabled overnight away from their home garage

EYMS stabled a NatEx at Go North West in 'the before times'. Not sure what service though.

Nine Passengers Injured as Diamond Bus Double-Decker hits Bridge in Rochdale.

Don't worry about it :-) I've driven the 471 that many times I could probably do it with my eyes closed. I wouldn't though as it may cause another deroofing!

Nine Passengers Injured as Diamond Bus Double-Decker hits Bridge in Rochdale.

That one was Milkstone Road, just on the other side of the train station. The recent one is on Richard Street.

Nine Passengers Injured as Diamond Bus Double-Decker hits Bridge in Rochdale.

I must have driven the 471 hundreds of times - and there are two low bridges either side of the station (Richard St, where this incident took place, and Milkstone Road, where the 17 from Queens Rd was deroofed). When I route learned it, it was drummed into us about those bridges, and even now...

Trivia: Bus routes that run in the morning peak only

If we're including stuff early in the morning, Go North West have the 63 Brookhouse-Mcr Picc - one journey, one way only: https://bustimes.org/services/63-brookhouse-manchester Edit: also forgot about the 17a, which does Rochdale to Shudehill via Stakehill Industrial Park, two trips in the...

First will probably run a load of extension leads around like they are for their allocators office/training bus

IMHO, I can see Oldham going one of two ways: 1) Bought out by another company (names are available in a hat I believe :-) ) 2) First will continue to run Oldham (proably as an outstation of West Yorks, no point in having big wigs there for one depot!) until Burnham's pipe dream of franchising...

TfGM-website, timetable updates and general news concerning TfGM bus stations.

https://www.visionbus.co.uk/news/brand-new-bus-service/ Its a circular route from Bolton up to Johnson Fold, in the north west of the town. Its serves Chorley Old Road in one direction then comes back via Church Road, like the current 501 ran by First (soon to be Diamond Bus). People on...

There's rumours going around that DBNW might sell the 162/163s, but I wouldn't hold yout breath. I think everything will stay curiously the same until franchising kicks in and thats when we'll see some interesting things happening.

Just an update from up here in GM land - Vantage will be moving to Arriva's depot in Bolton, subject to TC and landlord approval. They are setting up Rusholme just in case it doesn't go through for the 11th Aug when Diamond are taking over. Drivers are leaving in droves at the moment (and...

What's the most tightly timed bus route you can think of?

The First GM 163 can be a bit tight, especially on Saturday evenings. They give you an hour to do the full trip, which can be just about done on normal evenings, but on a Saturday with all the revelers going into town you've got no chance. They've recently installed a speed alert thing on their...

They tried to get rid of the 68 when they dumped off the 501, 507 and 561/562 but TfGM persuaded them to carry it on. The 2 does well with OK loadings on evenings. Makes one wonder if things were afoot with Rotala when they binned those tenders back in April...

Thanks for your kind words TGW, much appreciated. A lot of Vantage drivers I've spoken to today (well, the ones that will talk to a lowly normal driver - a number have a 'holier than thou' attitude towards us!) have said they'll be walking if thats the case as they all live on this side of...
