    Gallery cars in Chicago

yep everywhere, still the mainstay of the operation!

Odd set of scans - likely to result in a letter?

but working in IT should inform you of how much project management / software development time and even AWS compute it would take to find this information. There are much more profitable targets for this kind of data trawl!

Metra orders battery trains from Stadler

probably more that fleet utilization is so low that there is plenty of opportunity to charge up at either end rather than try to run knitting.

    Chicago area

I don't know how you've been doing today but you might have gotten free trips on Metra, their ticketing provider has thoroughly messed up implementation of the new fares apparently. Hopefully you're still enjoying my adopted city...

    Chicago area

Ok your question got complicated because Metra is changing the fair structure Feb 1 and I'm not familiar with all the changes but from the website: A new fare zone map, going from ten to four zones: https://metra.com/sites/default/files/2024-01/Zone Map.png here are the fare costs...

    Chicago area

just saw this thread, ex-pat living in Chicago. The Metra (surburban rail) platforms are not gated but Union station is pretty nasty, the Amtrak platforms are gated off. Also as everyone says February can be cold. Next week they're predicting highs of -10C. And you don't get used to it...

    ORR Origin-Destination Matrix 2021-22

this data is also super useful for software developers, gives the ability to cache the most common flows

    ORR Origin-Destination Matrix 2021-22

Honestly makes a lot of sense, not many people live in that area and anyone traveling to/from Argyle Street is likely commuting. For longer distance you'd simple just walk to Central or Queen Street.

    ORR Origin-Destination Matrix 2021-22

fascinating data - I (am sure others too) have bought a "1" count ticket.

    At-Street Interchanges

I used to do Euston to St Pancras and Euston to Kings Cross Thameslink without issue back in the day

    GWR pay-as-you-go issue

Off topic here, but is it safe to trust the RPIs when they say you don't need to tap out? I might have tapped out anyway, to avoid the "man on the platform told me" scenario. I guess they would at least have a record of the RPIs being there though.

Disingenuous departure board at London Victoria

Chicago L train system is a flat fare $2.50 from any station except O'Hare where it is $5.00

Worst Railway Journeys in the UK

was going to mention the Argyle line from Lanarkshire. Very dull, Argyle Street and Glasgow Central LL not the greatest stations. Only interesting bit is some thrash from Cambuslang to Rutherglen to limit the occupation of the WCML.

    Accused of reusing ticket?

The experts will be along in a minute, but if I were you, having given fake details, I would not be trying to get compensation/refund. Giving fake details is a serious issue, even though it sounds like you have done nothing wrong in terms of the ticket.

    Transport for Wales 769's

hopefully we'll get a bit of a heads up on 008, considering its the last of the 0s and the first to go into the Chunnel

    North American In-cab rides

There's a few of Chicago's surburban "Metra Service" here.... https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwfnHLrDzbfbIHUfR23BzOHBDPgjR8Oef

Things you don't see in trains any longer

I can't believe nobody has mentioned "looking out the front", as you used to be able to do on 303s. Is there modern stock where you can see forward?

    St Pancras Departure Boards

I don't really get organizing it by TOC. Nobody really cares, other than Eurostar or not Eurostar. It also lacks a "next train to major destination" which I think is actually useful for those not in the know. Anyway, if "by TOC" is the design, this does look great.
