Class 80x driving question (possibly others too)

Off topic, but actually planes can autoland with a Cat I ILS, just needs to be monitored by the PF, and ready to respond instantly if the sensitive area is infringed on, as it’s not “protected” like a Cat II/Cat III ILS is under LVPs.

Contracted out to Turners, I think? Not an employee of theirs anymore, so not sure.

I was the driver of the 781 that went into Gloucester. Snarled up a PVR for the whole week (as it HAD to be either 1330/1331), and Glos suggested the idea for it to be dial-a-ride.

Trivia: Services which are run by one depot, but could be run by more

First West of England runs all their X1/4/5/6/7/8 services from Weston, as well as the 39/X39 running from Bath. Could all be run from Bristol, and was for a time, but they are run from their respective depots for money-boosting reasons.

    Rail tickets to Hawick/Selkirk

Just tested it, and yes, that works :)

    Rail tickets to Hawick/Selkirk

It all comes down to pricing managers being proactive! Definitely agree with you on this. I’ve used a handful of “special” tickets that undercut a lot of fares, or haven’t been inter-available for yonks! My favourite “unusual” ticket, I will be happy to admit as it doesn’t undercut anything...

    Rail tickets to Hawick/Selkirk

If only there was somewhere you could book tickets like that online… I don’t always need an itinerary :D

    SNCF Loco-hauled services.

    I had 522310, 17:57 Marseille - 20:12 Antibes!

Trivia: Station dwells long enough to allow enough time to explore the settlement

The “Train des Merveilles” between Nice and Tende has a timetabled wait of approximately 15 minutes at Breil-sur-Roya, where you were encouraged to either get a coffee at a nicely-located stand, or pop into the supermarket! I chose the latter :D

    SNCF Loco-hauled services.

I had a BB 22000 on a Marseille St Ch. - Antibes run on TER 17495… Seems to be a lot running down there still on TER Zou?

General attitude to short-faring and how to combat it

I approached a member of staff before the end of my validity on said ticket - the staff on the station refused to sell an over distance, whereas the guard on-board did. Edit: My travel plans changed; why should I need to get such a ticket, where it can even be done at the final station, if...

    PlusBus dying off?

PlusBus would not be valid on the Y22, as it is a contract-run service, with no acceptance of anything but concessions and specific tickets on board. Even our staff passes aren't valid on the Ashton Gate (AG1/2/3) services here in Bristol, nor the A1 Airport Flyer.

General attitude to short-faring and how to combat it

To be fair, travel past "just one more stop" can be solved with an overdistance excess - unlike some people who tried to sell me a fresh ticket in the Bristol area, instead of a zero fare... <(

Trivia: Longest stretch of coasting on a train in regular passenger service.

Sounds more like high-speed coasting to me, with the appropriate boards and clear runs...

Large stations - slow speeds. Where fastest?

Yep, Reading P9 is 80/HST95, and P10 is 85/HST95, rising to 125 on both sides.

Trivia: Longest stretch of coasting on a train in regular passenger service.

There was an article a while back about a 350 coasting from Tring to Euston, coupled with a graph and all, iirc.

XC - Leave our train early and use another company

Okay, but as well all know, some men’s are very revenue-happy, and what would happen if some poor sod got MG11’d for using an XC-only ticket on Northern, supposedly acting on a TM’s advice which can’t be proven - it’s not official ticket acceptance. As we know, TOC restrictions can’t be...
