TFW statement - Future timetable review

It’s horrendous , cuts on Cambrian and Heart of Wales , terrible news, utter betrayal of Wales ( as I fear would be expected of a state operator, and no legal redress to keep services ). Beeching must be laughing .

Oxford to Cowley (THA) branch re-opening

This scheme is all about getting people to jobs , don’t forget 8000+, new houses south of the business park station, also a very strong driver. Witney is desperate for a rail link, and the case is strong , but due to pathing constraints , Bicester is a more better fit for operational reasons ...

Oxford to Cowley (THA) branch re-opening

The bus is 40 mins from Cowley to station, and they get caught up in traffic. This is a scheme pushing at an open door

1705840369 Presumably , a de scoped 140mph , Stafford by-pass , will deliver most of the benefits at a realistic cost.

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

The reason we can not have a bigger and better railway, is that it too expensive to meet safety rules for one in a billion events , this madness is £2.1m per fatality , roads are about £60k per fatality. The dice is loaded against rail ..and overall safety of the travelling public, there will...

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

It’s a terrible decision, although the evidence did not help WCR. More expensive safety work for the rail industry , to prevent a 1in a billion risk, potentially driving passengers to road travel where risks are massively greater. It lacks rigorous Benefit Cost Analysis.

Is the section of gwml beteen Paddington and reading the worst maintained line in the country?

I have great confidence in its maintenance, and those who maintain it, but the Western does seem to look untidy , far too much vegetation ( blocking drains , hiding movement ) , and left overs from works at the track side . It seemed to be far tiedIer when I was younger .

FT reporting Government about to reopen rail contracts with Operators: how could this be achieved?

It’s air travel XC can go for , not coaches , currently a cramped 4 car voyager ( full and standing ) can not compete with internal air routes from Bristol and Southampton. But it could if there were better seats , more of them , and a Buffet. Tragically in the last 7 years , air has become the...

FT reporting Government about to reopen rail contracts with Operators: how could this be achieved?

Let’s hope cross country , can boost revenue , and lease a few more Voyagers, with advertising and promotion. Quite frankly there is 100 percent latent demand untapped , or those who won’t travel due to overcrowding, commercial freedom is all that is needed, not micromanagement. It’s great news...

East-West Rail (EWR): Oxford-Bletchley construction progress

Good view of Bletchley , the junction view is partly blurred , but bridge now done, I noted all power supplies and compound finished. It looks really great from air, and not long till 2 halves joined. 11 Nov 2023.

It seems that Worcestershire Parkway is a success...

There is an issue of CDR tickets from Kingham onwards to Cheltenham , cross country set them or rather don’t , the only way is to split tickets into 2 CDR tickets , all a bit pathetic , and not encouraging leisure use.

New WCML contract 2023-2032 for Avanti (West Coast Partnership)

Unless the fleet is expanded , it’s more of the same , which is in many cases , not good enough.. More overcrowding in the leisure sector , is not the way to grow the rail industry.

    GWR short train lengths

Cotswold Line Oxford Padd, we’re very busy last Saturday with 5 cars , clearly, it was truly awfull post Oxford . This situation is “poising the well for rail travel “, very depressing and upsetting . i do wonder if cl 175 units at a lower Least cost may be a way forward , for Cdf -Bristol...

Why does this current U.K. Government hate rail so much.

The government has been very supportive of rail, until very recently . generally, this is not the 70,s or early 1980,s. Its unfortunate costs have risen too much, services have been disrupted by strikes and presumably the brakes have to go on, most Civil Servants , simply don’t get the...
