Railway Enthusiasts at Stations - is a clearer policy needed?

You can choose to interpret the *may part how you wish but the famous video at Macclesfield proves otherwise, as does the Upminster video on Youtube. It's worth noting that Virgin Trains fully defended their colleague who said "you are not allowed to do that unless you've asked for permission".

Railway Enthusiasts at Stations - is a clearer policy needed?

Oh and look, the National Rail website says the same thing as me, under the heading Guidelines*.

Railway Enthusiasts at Stations - is a clearer policy needed?

If a company in charge of the site tells you to do something, then it isnanrequirement. You are on their station at the end of the day. I appreciate that footbridges may not be as appealing, however that is not the fault of the railway. Crime in a specific area would fall under the...

Railway Enthusiasts at Stations - is a clearer policy needed?

It is written in the webpage I referenced. See where it mentions checking in with the Duty Station Manager (The person in charge of the station).

Railway Enthusiasts at Stations - is a clearer policy needed?

If East Midlands Trains manage a station and they say please do such and such, then it is a requirement, it's like if you came in to my house and I said please take your shoes off.

    EMT and First Class.

Until very recently, East Midlands Trains advised on their website that travelling in First on a Standard ticket could result in a Penalty Fare, I've been trying to find a link to the page but it seems to have disappeared.

Railway Enthusiasts at Stations - is a clearer policy needed?

Hi there, it's lovely to hear from you, as always. See this advice:- https://www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/information/media/news/Advice-for-Rail-Enthusiasts-Photography-at-stations/

    EMT and First Class.

Upgrading on board is only usually allowed at weekends, are you referring to customers upgrading at the ticket office?

Railway Enthusiasts at Stations - is a clearer policy needed?

The guidelines used to be that you can train spot if you sign in first, but I imagine it's a lot stricter now with the See It, Say it, Sorted campaign, it's probably a lot easier to find a footbridge or road bridge that crosses desired railway line and spot from there.

    EMT and First Class.

Not sure what they are like in the mornings when they run from Nottingham, as where I go from in Derby, they use HSTs for the early morning services. They do seem to price Advance 1st class tickets incredibly low on the 7 coach trains during the day though, the 12:29 SHF-STP has upgrades...

    EMT and First Class.

This crops up on Twitter often and the team always state that the capacity is needed during peak times.

    EMT and First Class.

They do generally try to have First Class at the centre on double units, which makes sense. With the railway network being so busy and a lack of paths though, it doesn't make sense to delay trains just so that First Class can be at one end. Your point is a valid reason for wanting First Class to...

    EMT and First Class.

It's not always possible to have First Class at a certain end and it really doesn't make much difference anyway. First Class is more about having a confortable lounge to wait for one's train in, larger and reclining seats, increased staff presence and the opportunity to purchase a hot meal.

Penalty Fares / Compulsory Ticket Area?

I grew up in that area and in the late nineties and early noughties, I never noticed a ticket check. My father actually used to buy our tickets on the train as standard. Times have changed now though and I really respect TOCS' desires to protect revenue.

Penalty Fares / Compulsory Ticket Area?

It's a good idea to at least endeavour to buy one or at some Network Rail stations you can actually sign in. Unlike in a shop where you have to pick something up to be accused of theft, stealing a journey is more complex and you could well find yourself in trouble.

Penalty Fares / Compulsory Ticket Area?

The person who brought up tram tickets though, seemed to At some stations, they issue something called a Platform Ticket for such thing. I know stations like Waterloo do. I wanted to use the toilet at Tamworth once and went to buy one though, was told they didn't sell them anymore, but the...

On this occasion he may not have been issued a token, but the Revenue Protection Officers do issue them on stings.

Sheff1 may not have been asked to use a token, however this does not mean that a token system has never been used.
