ECML Signalling Systems Failure in the Newark area (06/03/2024)

Why are LNER still saying "fault with the signalling" and not just tell people that a load of vital cable was stolen. I am sure the ranting public might be a little more understanding if they knew the real cause was external interference from toerags?

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

Unsavoury rag that they are, this graphic from their story does quite succinctly tell me a lot about what's happened and how the local scene is laid out. Is there anything wrong with the facts presented in this? I haven't seen any of the other news media or this thread present it quite as...

    NECTAR Card on TOCs

I booked a Great Northern service using TPE's app today specifically to get the nectar points, which it said I did (2 pts / £1), but I haven't checked the Nectar account yet to see if they've actually been credited. The TPE app is dreadful though. Had difficulties registering an account in the...

Lumo - new Open Access operator on the East Coast Main Line

I saw the 10:45 leave KGX this morning (Tuesday). Two backpack laden passengers arrived on the platform at exactly 10:45, when the yellow door lights had already gone out. However the doors were opened back up for them and they got on at the rear most door, and it pulled out shortly before...

    Soham station progress updates

Spotted this update on Soham (with a couple of pics) in the local newspaper the other day. https://www.elystandard.co.uk/news/traffic/soham-station-on-track-for-december-2021-opening-8283948

Lumo - new Open Access operator on the East Coast Main Line

The point about just being able to turn up and get the train without a ticket or fear of penalty fare is moot isn't it, given that every station they call at has barriers I think? (Not sure about Morpeth). Cannot see how many people would manage to get as far as their trains, unless they got...

Whittlesey - collision between freight train and tractor. (19/08/21)

Excellent. I read on local facebook groups that 1700 concrete sleepers have had to be replaced, not sure how true it is, would that equate to a mile of track? Were they damaged by one of the derailed items or the straw trailer being roughly shoved over them?

Whittlesey - collision between freight train and tractor. (19/08/21)

Line still closed until at least tomorrow, by the look of things.

Piccadilly line between Northfields and Acton

The outer track towards Acton Town used to have a load of spray nozzle pipe work alongside for testing wet weather behaviour, I don’t know if it’s still there, don’t live that way any more.

Crossrail opening delayed (opening date not yet known)

Apart from the first picture the rest seem to show people working in total isolation i.e. totally on their own, or no people working at all. I'm not surprised they're years behind if they only ever have 1 person working on anything on his own!

Class 43 LNER Farewell Railtour Dec 2019

I'm impressed at how it's staying so clean and shiny in this weather. Unless I've only seen photos taken first thing in the morning!

Trivia: Stations where every platform face is on the same side.

South Kensington on the Piccadilly Line as well then, if we're including tube.

Biggest Platform Gap in the country?

The Bakerloo Line platforms at Waterloo always seem a ludicrously large gap to stride across to me, depending whether you're at the carriage end or carriage middle. I always thought it should have moving platform edge "gap fillers" that go out to meet the train once it's stopped, like South...

Man electrocuted and burned at Birmingham new street

I haven't seen anything confirmed in the news that he climbed on top of a train, just that he "came in contact with the overhead wire". Obviously climbing onto a train is probably the easiest way to do that but maybe he found a gantry that was climbable or fell off something. Anyway this report...

    Total Northern Line failure 04/09

That's fairly bad disaster planning and testing if so; power failure is one of the easiest aspects to mitigate against ... Probably find there's a generator but nobody fuelled it up, or they put all the servers on the generator-backed power but forgot to put some crucial network switch or...

    Total Northern Line failure 04/09

Looks like they have some of it running now, no Charing Cross branch, but it's gradually coming back up.

    Total Northern Line failure 04/09

On the official twitter account they keep posting things like "we expect to have services at 10:30" and then 10:30 comes and goes, so they must think it is something solvable rather than knocked out for days. My favourite tweet so far - "Who prorogued the Northern Line?"

Regular steam services to leave Waterloo every Tuesday June 4 - Sept. 3 2019

There was definitely a £3 pamphlet covering the round trip earlier in the season, I bought it. I thought it was quite good, it gave a route map and timings for the whole loop.

Regular steam services to leave Waterloo every Tuesday June 4 - Sept. 3 2019

I did the evening loop service in June in Standard Class and there were about 10 of us altogether. First Class looked almost full though when we stopped at Chertsey for water and I had a wander up the platform. It was a great evening out, the only thing that was a shame about it was that the...
