London to Stockholm by train in less than 24 hours from September

And of course this involves using the unreliable Brussels to Cologne ICE service and the very unreliable 12.25 departure (will it be on time? will it run? will it start in Brussels?). Would you trust DB with an ice cream van at the moment?

    Planning an Interrail trip?

Some notes from the above itinerary: - 30907’s suggestion to break-up the journey east is a very good one. - I have assumed that you haven’t visited too much of eastern Europe and so have focused on the big tourist centres (they’re popular for a reason!) - I have tried to leave spare time in...

    Planning an Interrail trip?

A starter-for-ten itinerary for the east: Day1 London-Cologne o/n Cologne (1 night) Day 2 Cologne-Salzburg (via Rhine Valley) o/n Salzburg (2 nights) Day 3 Salzburg Day 4 Salzburg-Vienna (via Klagenfurt or Selzthal) o/n Vienna (4 nights) Day 5-7 Vienna half...

    Planning an Interrail trip?

Interrail planning can be a chore or an addiction, with a three month trip I hope it’s the latter! When I did my first Interrail I was in a similar position to you - I’d decided to do it but didn’t know where I wanted to go (I was interested in old locomotives particularly where they were...

Journey from Frankfurt to Brussels with pass, cancelled train means having to pay to use Thalys to m

Here's my Brussels farce from a few weeks ago. We were booked on the 14.37 Frankfurt-Brussels (ICE14) which was 'cancelled' and starting from Köln Hbf. Fortunately we were advised of this on our inbound ICE and told to stay on it until Köln Messe/Deutz. Although the ICE arrived on time it...

Trip Report- 25 days on the rails in Europe...

Another good read, keep them coming! The Puttgarden to Roedby train ferry is the least interesting of the three European ones as it doesn't involve any shunting. Although the fixed link isn't due to open until 2028 trains are expected to finish running in 2022.

Trip Report- 25 days on the rails in Europe...

Nice report. I'll have to get a Stockholm transport map to follow your route. Looking forward to the next installment.

    FQ's trips around the globe

Rabbits on Thunderbird duties, which is presumably what the two you say at Frankfurt were are naturally Thunderbunnies. "Thunderbunnies are go"

    FQ's trips around the globe

The numbering of 'class 66s' in Germany has a convoluted history. I think they were all delivered to France as class 77 (a modified class 66) and owned by Euro Cargo Rail. When DB Cargo bought ECR some were moved to Germany and classified as 247s but that classification had already been...

    FQ's trips around the globe

A long day and a long report (not that I'm complaining!), looking forward to the next installment. I did the same journey as you in 2012 and arrived on the evening of the European Cup Final - Bayern Munich against Chelsea in Munich.

    Berlin loco-hauled

An old loco certainly but a commercial service which has run for several years. Snälltåget is a Swedish TOC with services to Stockholm and further north.

    Berlin loco-hauled

A photographic rather than travel opportunity is the Berlin Night Express from Malmö which uses Swedish rolling stock and an old ex-DB class 109 electric. Timing details are here: https://www.snalltaget.se/en/destinations/berlin

    Vectron’s Trip Logs

Docklands Light Railway 27 February 2018 I have a Robin Trower concert in London tonight so despite predictions of a snowy Armageddon I decided to make a day of it travelling on the DLR. I’ve probably made more than 2,000 journeys between Bank and Canary Wharf, initially using the North Quay...

    Bouzonville Good Friday Service

Does anyone have any information on whether the Niedaltdorf-Bouzonville service will run this year, or can suggest who I should contact at DB. Thanks. Steve

London - New York flight options

My advice is not to go in August with anyone - it's hot and humid (both can be in the 90s).

Cumbrian Coast 13 January 2018 My first UK trip of the Millennium (no, that's not a typo)!! :D:lol: I had planned on a trip to ride behind the 37s on the Cumbrian Coast services before they are replaced by class 68s in May, but not until March when there would be more daylight. When I...

    Vectron’s Trip Logs

Day 5 Wednesday First stop was Edinburgh Waverley. We were probably there for about an hour and my notes suggest we saw three pairs of BRCWs which would have been working the Glasgow trains (they did this for a period as a push-pull operation) and so the Brush 4 seen at Queen Street on Monday...

    Vectron’s Trip Logs

Day 4 Tuesday The first stops were Inverness station and depot. Three more BRCWs had arrived on the depot since yesterday evening and two more in the station (and two Sulzers as well). A good start to the day. On the way to Aberdeen we called in at Nairn, Lhanbryde and Pitcaple to see a...

    Vectron’s Trip Logs

Day 3 Monday Update for yesterday – the first 26 of the trip was 5327 in Glasgow Works. There wasn’t a fixed itinerary for today except for calling at Fort William on the way to Inverness. We started the day at Hyndland station for the morning rush hour. I recorded 46 units so we were probably...
