Could TPE ditch the Mk5 sets?

    Which is it then

Could TPE ditch the Mk5 sets?

It is almost as if Transpennine, after winning the bid, realised how complicated all this would be.... delayed the introduction of Mk5As... then refused to accept all of them... and were hoping that the Department would pay for more Hitachis as part of a new and extended franchise...

In your opinion - which TOC has been the most experimental and why?

That is quite different from "bidders will only bid non-compliant bids if they believe the DfT spec to be technically unworkable."

    First Group terminates two franchises?

Does anyone know why the amount of money at risk for Transpennine is so high?

In your opinion - which TOC has been the most experimental and why?

Bidders are always right and the DfT is always at fault.

    First Group terminates two franchises?

Could this have anything to do with it https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sunderlandecho.com/news/politics/council/east-coast-main-line-clogged-services-capacity-reached-north-east-chiefs-call-investment-so-region-can-have-rail-links-it-needs-3009689%3famp "The committee chair, Cllr Martin...

    First Group terminates two franchises?

I wonder if Edinburgh to Liverpool is an "impossible service"?

    First Group terminates two franchises?

I thought you said Transpennine weren't close to collapse, and that "The event of Change is well defined so the effects are relatively easy to quantify to both parties satisfaction."

    First Group terminates two franchises?

After already recording a £106m loss and with plenty more cash at risk it will be interesting to see what the final settlement is.

    First Group terminates two franchises?

The South Western Railway termination payment is £33.2 million. Costs already written off were £102m. This means that a total of £135m of the £146m Parent Company Guarantee has been forfeited by First.

TPE fleet - are the Mk5s the right choice?

That's really interesting. So I wonder why all sets haven't been accepted then?

Rail Franchises to be Replaced with Fixed Fee Contracts

I'm quite surprised he's not in the meetings!

Rail Franchises to be Replaced with Fixed Fee Contracts

I agree with your overall point. But the explanation implies that everything that ever goes wrong on the railway is the fault of the Department for Transport's specification. That seems to be a simplistic view of a complicated situation and I'm sure we could all think of examples where train...

Rail Franchises to be Replaced with Fixed Fee Contracts

And it is presumably easier if the change is relatively small and the company / Department are in a strong financial position.

Rail Franchises to be Replaced with Fixed Fee Contracts

Surely this is a commercial discussion and therefore the discussions take as long as they take. Would the December 2019 driver training issue have been a change?

Rail Franchises to be Replaced with Fixed Fee Contracts

Ok, and what if they are far apart?

Rail Franchises to be Replaced with Fixed Fee Contracts

This seems to suggest you are monitoring the balance sheets of all train operators, is that right? Firsts own financial statements suggest a degree of concern for the finances of both operators...

    First North Western class 158s?

Can't say ORCATS raid on here, its "providing additional passenger connections" and never to do with cold, hard commercial reality.

Rail Franchises to be Replaced with Fixed Fee Contracts

I don't know. Why is rail different in the public eye do you think?
