Metrolink - how does it cope with football/cricket/concert events?

Adds more capacity to the route on weekday nights; Saturday evenings and all day Sunday. The Altrincham trams are doubles rather than the singles from Media City.

    Manchester Metrolink

"Greater Manchester (Light Rapid Transit System)" is the formal name used for the Parliamentary act, the title used for the Sheffield system acts was "South Yorkshire Light Rail Transit" whereas it was "The Edinburgh Tram", "The Croydon Tramlink", "Greater Nottingham Light Rapid Transit".

    Alexander Dennis fires

E-Bus fires in Germany seem to be pretty common. On 30th September 2021 a fire broke out at a Stuttgart depot destroying 25 buses and Stuttgart announced they were temporarily withdrawing electric buses from use. This followed a depot fire in June 2021 in Hanover which destroyed a building and 9...

Interesting you use the word 'supertram' as that was a marketing brand created specially for the Sheffield system. It opened as the "South Yorkshire Supertram" then when it was bought by Stagecoach was retained as the 'Stagecoach Supertram'.

We just call it 'The Tram'

    Looking For a Station

There was a disused station being restored on Tim Dunns The Architecture the Railways Built that was similar to that description.

    TfGM Tranche 3 speculation

Yep those are the awards, there were two further small franchises tendered that wernt awarded. One that got zero bids and was folded into the Wigan large and the other got two bids but neither were thought to be competitive enough so was directly negotiated.

    TfGM Tranche 3 speculation

There were 8 bidders for all the large (2) and multiple bidders for all the small franchises (9) tendered in the first tranche apart from one small that had one bid and one small (consisting of just two routes) that got zero bids. There was loads of interest and heavily fought hence the...

    TfGM Tranche 3 speculation

Yeah I didnt mean you shouldnt guess, just that there was no way of making an informed guess, you might as well roll dice to decide.

    TfGM Tranche 3 speculation

I dont think you can really predict who will win, depends on the strength of bids and its already been demonstrated there isnt a home advantage.

HS2 Phase 2a Route Safeguarding Ended

The London- Macclesfield 2A service would have called at Euston, Old Oak, Stafford, Stoke and Macclesfield as well as the Scotland-Birmingham trains in 2B but your right Manchester itself wasnt directly served to Staffordshire however it would have freed the lines for more services and and more...

HS2 Phase 2a Route Safeguarding Ended

I laughed at the Conservative Sir Gavin, the South Staffordshire MP’s comments, ‘we welcome the axing of HS2, our number one priority with the money is a new line between Manchester and Staffordshire’.

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

Only the hourly Southport diesel service calls at those stations.

    Manchester Metrolink

Was indeed to keep the costs down but at the time 100% low floor trams hadnt been invented, you had a choice of either high floor or 70% low floor which had a lower floor level around the doors and a step up to a a higher floor level over the axels like buses.

    TfGM Bus franchising

I think Arriva said some time back they were prioritising Wigan-Ormskirk but you also have the Liverpool bus franchising on the horizon where they want to make the Wigan-Southport route part of their franchised network despite it only operating in Merseyside for about 10% of its journey.

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

The Hindley Wigan direction work I saw a couple of months ago was quite extensive and not just clearing vegetation. They had excavated, relevelled the soil and installed new drainage channels with it awaiting a new platform surface to be poured while in the Manchester direction they were laying...

    TfGM Bus franchising

Was a Stotts Tendered service previously I think, not commercial.

If you waited for everyone it would never move, constant stream of new platform punters. Doors do close automatically after a certain amount of time if no obstructions as well.

    TfGM Bus franchising

It's about 2/3rd the size of Hyde Road, but probably the last available industrial site close to the city centre as they are gobbled up by the rapid housing expansion. The only authorised land acquisition program I know of is for bus depots, though it could have been an emergency decision based...

Yellow square at the end of the platform

Yes usually just means dont obstruct.
