    Short formed London Overground 07/04/24

Was just wondering (may be nothing to do with this) whether this has anything to do with the fact that the match was moved at (relatively) late notice from the Monday to the Sunday? So there wasn't enough time to sort out lengthening of units, additional trains from Ilford etc? It had been...

EMR MML services on Sundays too crowded - what should be done?

It is generally useful to give an idea of the really busy services but sadly I don't think it's up to date. E.g. if you put in London St Pancras to Nottingham, weekday, it shows the 13:05 and 14:35 (no data for 13:35 or 14:05) as having 273 seats - this I think is a relic of when 180s were used...

    Landslip between Edenbridge and Tonbridge

There was, although it was on the other side of Edenbridge station more towards Godstone. It was very hard to access the site, being so remote and I think Network Rail had to build a road to access the site in that instance?

    Formula 1

Agreed. Very impressive and will be interesting to see how he does in the race itself. Some more rumbling this evening about Helmut Marko's future at Red Bull, and Max saying that he may not stay if Marko leaves. Can see more about that here

    1Z83 1218 London Paddington-Swansea via Newbury line/Berks&Hants 8/3/24

It may be this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68502988 GWR also says on twitter that this is taking place today on board an IET. As the service noted in the OP is an unadvertised express it's probably that one, perhaps someone could confirm for certain?

    London Overground line names announced

Based off of general responses on TikTok, Twitter and various social media forums I would say this has had a generally pretty negative reception. I actually quite like the concept here and I do understand what they're trying to do but I do think the names are naff. I live on the "Weaver Line"...

    Advice on fraudulently refunding tickets

I have a similar thing with one of my friends. Incredibly smart person in all other parts of their life and I just cannot seem to get the point through. Reusing the same ticket between two unbarriered stations a few times and if unscanned at the end of the month (rare, as these are IC stations -...

    Most unreliable service ex London.

Interesting - in the timetable I think this is theoretically still happening (the 1305, formed off the 1255 arrival from Nottingham). Last few days has seen this as a set swap, with the 1209 Sheffield arrival forming the 1305 rather than heading off to Cricklewood at 1310, and the 1255...

    Accommodation suggestions and reviews

Two recent ones for me in Nottingham: Premier Inn, Nottingham City Centre (Chapel Bar) Two nights at this hotel, which is in an excellent location, about 2 minutes walk to Old Market Square. Thought it was about 10-12 minutes walk from the station but Google Maps says 15 minutes so allow...

Do deep-level Tube trains have heating?

I did wonder this, when I'm at Seven Sisters in the winter and a train has come in empty from the depot, it's actually quite cold - one of the only times I ever experience the Victoria line in that way. Warms up quickly enough but still.

London to Watton at Stone (via Stevenage)

Trainline wouldn't allow me to input via Stevenage - maybe it's my computer playing up? However - trainsplit would, and it returned a price of £12.60 (with 26-30 railcard as OP mentions) - with these tickets: I wonder if this is a mistake. I think it's ok to share this as there really is no...

Should Southern On Board Supervisors (OBS) be abolished?

It is a shame, as some are a lot better than others. Had a number of OBSs who have been very informative and friendly, checking on passengers and checking tickets throughout the whole journey, stepping out onto the platform at each station. I like the presence even where they are not safety...

Disruption from flooding after rain on 4 January 2024

On Twitter, someone asked SWR whether all 4 of us can claim for part of the journey each - SWR's response was that only one person could claim the full value of the journey back. Would be expensive for e.g. Waterloo to Bournemouth...

What would happen in this situation? (Re railcard)

Unfortunately OP has a 26-30 railcard and these are online only. edit beaten to it - sorry for duplication!

What would happen in this situation? (Re railcard)

I do really sympathise with this, however, the T&Cs of 26-30 railcard state: I'd be nervous to attempt these journeys on a railcard discounted ticket without being able to show my railcard as the guard/RPI/whoever you may encounter is fully within their rights to charge you a full new fare...

All seat reservations activate part-way through GWR journey

This kind of thing really frustrates me. Again, this brings to light the issue of not having clear directions/signage to indicate what should happen when no reservations are showing in a carriage where you are expecting them. A sign displaying "where reservations are displayed as green...

    Ticket officers powers

Condition 3, taken from the Freedom Pass website: As above, the way you acted would have been suspicious to an inspector. They would (fairly, in my opinion) have assumed that you may not actually be entitled to the pass. I have a (different) high value pass and I can honestly say it takes...

    New toilets at London Bridge

Liverpool Street toilets are not the same design as Victoria (they're pretty standard doors and nowhere near as heavy). Hopefully these are designed well but regardless London Bridge's existing toilets are generally unpleasant (or if not physically unpleasant then way too busy) - so it's good...

    Pointless journeys in London

Indeed public services are not timetabled to use this route. One train a week (0530 ex Liv St on Saturdays) uses the South Tottenham - Seven Sisters route, but does not call at South Tottenham. Some services used to run this way from Enfield/Cheshunt to Stratford but that ceased years ago and...

Took an earlier train and got a fine

To add to that, on Northern's own website on a page titled 'Train Cancellations', it quite literally says the following:
