    GTR/1878 - Orpington Depot

I’m hoping with trainee positions GTR may take applications from qualified drivers. Does anyone have HR recruitment email? If so, Please PM me as the details are not on thier site which is standard and understandable. Thanks

    Depot Driver

This does depend on the TOC. Some having automatic mainline possibilities after a certain timeframe. Or when positions become available. Most mainline positions are also offered internally first. I wouldn’t turn down the offer of DD if it’s made available to you. It’s your foot in the door...

    Train driver Assesment

Just for clarification, Is it still the case that each days assessment must be a pass for all tests? Failing one results in the entire day to be redone. Unless of course you pass all to a national standard, you can then retake the particular test of which an enhanced score is needed for the...

Qualified Driver looking at Southern and Southeastern

Yeah got a few at my depot that live further then me. Although most TOCs do specify a certain radius. Some can be slightly more relaxed

Qualified Driver looking at Southern and Southeastern

Thanks! Will do! At a 12 mile radius from my home for both. Hopefully acceptable to them.

Qualified Driver looking at Southern and Southeastern

Ah that’s annoying. Orpington, Gillingham and Dartford are all at a 12 miles from my home. Tonbridge is the only one within the 10 miles. Will keep an eye out

Qualified Driver looking at Southern and Southeastern

Thanks 142094 I did see them a while back but trying to edge out of London. That’s where I currently work as a depot. I’m DOO only with my current TOC. Definitely interested in guard services for a difference but don’t know any different.

Passed national level failed MTR level

Just curious if anyone knows of specific TOCs that accept national standard test passes? Seems to crop up quiet a bit in these threads when people don’t get accepted. Probably helpful to someone unable to take further tests after reaching national standard and willing to relocate.

    Sound advice!

    PQA Driver

Does depend on your contract. I’m aware of a guard who became a driver and left right after passing out. His contact stipulated being employed for two years. Not just specific as a driver. Definitely talk to your DTM or HR as mentioned by brewmachine.

A career as a train driver

This is by far the most knowledgeable and useful information out there for getting on the railway!

    Train driver Assesment

I only know it as two strikes and out. Must be a very new rule if not. Really if people have to keep doing the tests over and over to get a pass, the job may not be for them. There are a lot of rules and different traction out there to learn. Failing repeat tests will raise competency issues...

Are there really no trainee positions going at the moment? Been looking everywhere for around a week

It can take months even years. Some people get half way to a talent pool and are then held until something comes up in the future. Keep moving forward in your current role. Keeping train driving in the back of your mind as a goal but not a necessity. You’ll drive yourself mad otherwise. Check...

Qualified Driver looking at Southern and Southeastern

Hi All First time poster here. This forum is a nice little gem. Wish I’d found it when I applied for the role. Just checked TOC websites every couple days for months. I’m a qualified driver looking into changing TOCS. After some investigation and thread reading I’ve come to the conclusion...
