Are too loud and too many PRM alarms and announcements making travellers uptight.....

"The buffet is now open". That's all the information that is needed. Even the most dim Chimp-brained punter knows what is on sale in buffets. We don't need to be told that there's a selection of hot and cold drinks, various sandwiches, hot bacon rolls, wines and beers ..........". IT'S A BUFFET!

What would you do if you could rename any stations.

. The best example for me being the G.W.R.'s re-naming of Ross to Ross on Wye to promote it's tourism. Shouldn't LUL's Kings Cross St Pancras be Kings Cross/St Pancras?

Rail fares to go up by 3.1%

Everybody might expect an annual pay rise but they don't get one. My luscious lady friend's pay was frozen for six years. The rise that she and her colleagues got this year is nowhere near several years of +2%. For a specialist clinical nurse she's laid a pittance compared with tube drivers...

Beeching II - you wield the axe.....

If you think that the majority of secondary rail lines are a substitute for owning and operating a private motor car you're in dreamland. Go on to the national rail website and ascertain the journey by rail from Penzance to Barnstaple departing from Penzance at 12.00 or so tomorrow morning. Then...

Why is the tube network dry compared with the Paris metro

There's a rather interesting film out there somewhere which explained the problems with water "they" had when constructing the Paris metro.

    Buffets

The thing is ...when did the Buffet Car Attendant become, "your Customer Host"?

    Inconveniently Sited Stations

Dorking(Deepdene) is an appalling station. I use it as an interchange for Dorking (Main) when traveling to Horsham from Penzance. I'm 72 but fortunately still able bodied. Would a lift be too much to ask for?

5 people suspended after SouthEastern rail tour driven by "unauthorised" person.

There's a massive difference in the safety systems built into a "Javelin" and those of a 1960's DEMU. The Cowden crash was passing a red signal in fog on a single line. Even I know that and I'm still learning about railways.

GWR operating short 'HSTGTi' sets (see diagrams section for workings)

".........traction/brake interlock to prevent..." Do I interpret this correctly as that if a coach door is open the driver cannot release the brakes or apply power?

RAF Tornados and their final few months & where to see them?

My old base at Marham is where they all live now. I wasn't on Tornados I retired with the Victors.

    GWR Class 800

I'm aware of that. As the train ran into Exeter I walked along to the leading end (I was sitting in the second coach from the rear) to be told by the catering lady that there was no restaurant service. I wasn't the only disappointed punter.

GWML closed (14/10) Newton Abbot - Dawlish

Damn Brunel and his obsession with level railway lines.

Southall bi-lingual signs post Elizabeth line

You've missed my point completely. You've even twisted my reply to suggest that I claim that "ex-pats" speak the local language whereas I stated the opposite. English - or any other people - living in Wales should be under no obligation to appeal Welsh as Wales is a minority language much as...

Southall bi-lingual signs post Elizabeth line

They live here. They should learn the language - just like those "ex pats" in Spain and Malta.

    GWR Class 800

Well, I finaly got to travel on one of the sooper-dooper trains yesterday (10.00 ex Pz). Thoughts/experience? Seats are hard and (for me) uncomfortable. Armrests may as well not be there, they're so skinny as to be impractical. Windows seem larger...

First South West (Kernow & Buses of Somerset)

I too saw that letter. I've noticed when I've been in my garden which overlooks Alverton Road that the occasional double-decker is on the M6. The driver of one which I took told me that they turn outside "The Coastguard" as they can't get into the village. Perhaps that's given rise to the no bus...

    GWR Class 800

"We have slowly but steadily been losing time,.....". That for me is standard GWR practice. I've yet to be on a London bound train from Penzance that hasn't been late leaving Truro. Most all of the lost time is down to dismal platform work. I'm going up om the 10.00 to-morrow. Just for amusement...

Could we see more inter EU trains?

Assume for a moment that by some miracle of common sense there is a good connection off the white elephant to HS1. Here are your choices. Catch a train leaving Manchester at 09.00, step off the train in Paris at 13.45 or so(local). Catch a flight leaving Manchester at 09.00, step off the 'plane...
