    Scotrail and Network Rail charges

£12.43 per passenger before the pandemic, but that includes the busier bit north of Girvan and the Ayr to Kilmarnock section. https://www.scotrail.co.uk/sites/default/files/assets/download_ct/20210823/unvyb8g0C5sQnWhXVKIcsKZDpiZk8wjsQRfGj9d8GSU/scotrail_route_by_route_key_metric_assessment.pdf...

Scotrail RMT strike action and possible temporary service cuts to a third of services

Probably because they literally just took the one they used last time services were slashed and re-used it. What’s possibly a more interesting question is why a) this week’s TT increase wasn’t pulled when it became obvious that there wasn’t a hope in hell of delivering it b) why this carnage has...

Scotrail RMT strike action and possible temporary service cuts to a third of services

Station info boards and a matching announcement this evening said “Last trains may be cancelled and alternative transport may not be available” so it seems stranding passengers is now policy. I thought that was totally against the conditions of carriage?

    Caledonian Sleeper

If the delay is expected to be more than 15 mins then it would be arriving at Dalmuir after the first Airdrie to Helensburgh train anyway.

Easing of Coronavirus restrictions in Scotland

Credit where credit is due today. All posters, stickers, barriers, one way systems and most importantly the constant announcements at the stations have gone. The only exception I spotted was the “wear one protect everybody” poster on board. Fair number of staff & passengers wearing masks but...

Easing of Coronavirus restrictions in Scotland

I just wish they’d give it a rest. I last travelled a couple of weeks ago and there were 3 different face covering messages, voiced by different people, playing on rotation, one of which is just a long string of patronising orders about letting people off the train, standing back from the...

Easing of Coronavirus restrictions in Scotland

I won’t be the slightest bit surprised if the audio pollution at the station tomorrow still includes the messages about face coverings being compulsory on trains and in stations.

    Scotrail, Abellio and April

Watch for LNER and XC paths north/west of Edinburgh evaporating… 1649958875 Ironically, showing Edinburgh on the front would probably be better as it could probably be shown without scrolling. Same with “Helensburgh” rather than “Helensburgh Central” when going the other way

    RMT statement discussion.

Should I start researching bus routes to work now or wait for the ballot?

Yep- https://www.scotrail.co.uk/plan-your-journey/stations-and-facilities/on-train-catering Would happily bet an E&G anytime day return that this message will stick permanently.

    Scotrail, Abellio and April

Yep. Sundays on the North Clyde were a bit of a disaster as well, especially with swimming at Tollcross (Carntyne) as well as indoor stuff at the Emirates (Bellgrove). Mobbed trains coming through from Edinburgh leaving people behind and running late, followed by empty trains coming from...

P&O Ferries - mass redundancies without consultation

The Cairnryan to Larne ferries are registered in the Bahamas, but never leave the UK. Also, state owned CalMac have their ferries crewed by a subsidiary in Guernsey. If the state owned operator is indulging in these sorts of practices... Description of Calmac corporate structure including...

What was longest running (in years) loco hauled service by same class of loco

No mention of class 91s yet? Kings X to Leeds every day since 1989 (as far as I can see) surely a record for a non-steam locomotive on a single route

Trivia: “Through” trains with few or zero through carriages

Was there not, before Covid, an afternoon Glasgow - Aberdeen - Inverness service that left as a 170+158, dropped the 158 at Perth or Dundee, then gained a pair of 158s at Aberdeen? I think this is it, though this one just shows it gaining a single 158 at Aberdeen today...

Trivia: from which stations can you see/hear your train coming when it's still miles away?

Inverkeithing heading south. You can see the train on the opposite platform, but it’s still got to drive all the way to Glenrothes and back!

    Diesel engines running all night

That’s only because they’re fitted with engine driven compressors. Did Alstom not fit electric compressors to their diesel units (175s at least)? That would allow it to be powered off a shore supply or battery if required and also means the unit doesn’t sit at max rpm shortly after starting as...

Scotrail - Post Covid Consultation - Service Reductions

That’s still not bad for an off peak service. I’d suggest that anything less than that isn’t really a usable service, so you’re into the realms of whether to keep at least 2 an hour and try to stimulate demand or kill it, either off peak or entirely.

Scotrail - Post Covid Consultation - Service Reductions

You do wonder whether someone should perhaps have been bold enough to shut the stations between QS HL and Anniesland. The whole route is such a basket case that IIRC, even in normal times, it would have been cheaper to pay for taxis rather than running trains. It’s now hourly and will no doubt...

Jenny Gilruth appointed new Transport Minister in Scotland

Aye, but that can be blamed on old, bad, private, foreign Abellio. Not the wonderful new publicly owned ScotRail. In all seriousness, given the "emergency" Omicron absence timetable now seems to have been extended indefinitely, despite Sturgeon finally relenting on working from home, when will...
