TfW 15x/17x withdrawals (17x now finished)

The main factor is C6 body overhauls. Judging by the shiny condition of 150253 below the solebar, C4 overhauls are still happening. Though I guess if a unit due C6 in a few months runs out of C4 miles first, it will be game over. Someone with better knowledge than me might be able to explain better.

TfW 15x/17x withdrawals (17x now finished)

150236 recently withdrawn and the Craven Arms units 150242 and 150279, the latter still in Arriva livery.

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

This is true. I remember the plan V units were filthy in their last few years. They used to be bright yellow 20 years ago.

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

This is the first time a 197 has been to Pembroke Dock. I'd assume that two, three or four cars will be allowed once the route is signed off.

    Pacers on Long Distance Routes

Pacers never went to Manchester from Cardiff. They got as far north as Craven Arms a few times.

    Stopper allowed out first

Unfortunately, the trains frequently trip over each other on this route. As mentioned above, if the stopper goes up late, it comes back late when then delays the down TfW train and so the cycle continues. It should get better in June when the WMT run the opposite half hour to TfW. The 1230 is...

Cross Country cutting out Winchester and Basingstoke stops

If they are offering cheap tickets on trains that are genuinely overcrowded then they really have lost the plot. 1713648567 I don't travel on them. Problem solved!

16 day line closure at Hackney Downs - London Overground suspension and WAML diversions, 20th Jul - 4th Aug

Should be possible to run both. The Hertford trains run parallel to the Meridian Water trains in both directions through Tottenham Hale. So the Hertford trains could use the Meridian Water paths south of Tottenham and interwork with the Stortford trains.

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

There were 42,000 deaths on US roads last year. If I have done my maths correctly, that is about five times the death rate in the UK.

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

I have been on motorways where lane one is moving faster than the other lanes. Especially the M25 where people are reluctant to use lane one because it spilts of at a lot of junctions. Am a obliged to drive more slowly than the traffic in lane two? 1713532784 I remember Andy Parsons talking...

Can and will train seats become comfortable again?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the south side of the Circle Line from Tower Hill to Gloucester Road is 24 trains per hour. At one point, this was achieved with three types of train (C, D and S stock), all driven manually and with the single leaf doors on the D stock. 1713476996 The standard class...

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

Does any Belgian stock have selective door opening? Years ago I did a P train to Quevy formed of M4 stock. At least one of the stations beyond Mons had a short platform. There was a short announcement to that effect but nothing to stop people opening the doors at the back of the train. I assume...

    TFW 2024 Timetable consultation.

If you ask the guard, they will ring control and the connection onto the Cambrian will usually be held for up to 10 minutes if there is a two hour gap. Anything longer than that causes numerous reactionary delays on the single line.

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

The process at Horsham with 377s is much more long winded. First portion arrives, doors open. Doors close again as second portion approaches. Second portion stops, doors open. Doors close again, second portion attaches. After approx two minutes, doors open on the whole train briefly before they...

    TFW 2024 Timetable consultation.

I believe there are 20 diagrams. One does 1W92, 1V97 and 1W98. If you follow the workings, I think one of the sets on 1I04 and 1I22 never goes on the Cambrian because it forms 1D21 at 1930. So far as I can tell, all the others go through Machynlleth at least once.

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

I have definitely seen Koplopers attach at Zwolle with doors open on one unit. In the UK, all doors are closed for attachments. Usually for two minutes on modern trains whilst the computer reboots.

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

I normally make one trip a year to Europe. Sometimes it feels like a different planet. Some trains in Belgium have basic auto announcements but they are very unreliable. Still lots of low platforms. However, I think all trains have contrasting doors, now that all the AM75 and Breaks have been...

Interesting journeys in Belgium and the Netherlands

Agreed, finding a Koploper to Groningen last week was quite challenging. They still run 11 car formations in the peaks. 4011 is still going, the last survivor of the first series I believe. 1713271349 As of December the Spa to Aachen service has been replaced by an hourly loco hauled service...

    Themed graffiti

Yes there is some in the Netherlands but nothing like Belgium. To be fair, I have never seen it as bad as the Koploper link you posted. I am surprised that they let it out in that condition.
