    Guided Busways

It used to be the case that you bought before you boarded from Guideway stops, much like a train. But the council couldn't maintain the ticket machines

LNER to offer free period products on trains

It's a fantastic scheme, but after reading some of the comments on social media, i"m reminded there are still some neanderthals around.

West Yorkshire Bus Franchising to go ahead

NEXUS got its sums wrong. Plain and simple. The argument was there to be won and they alone flunked it.

    Ticket Inspectors onboard buses.

Reading the original tweet, I'm reminded that people should use language more appropriately as it devalues the meaning. I didn't realise checking bus tickets was evidence of a "controlling state", but there we are

    Archived bus running times?

I can see the service is supported in part by Surrey County Council. It may be worth an FOI for reliability data for the trips or part of the route they pay for. They may even have data on spot checks!

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

I appreciate I may have been very lucky, but I used 20+ Trent Barton services over the last four days and every single bus I wanted turned up with the longest delay of 10 minutes. I even managed a coach on the Red Arrow! I'm in no doubt the are suffering issues, and certainly heard a grumble...

    Go South Coast

Indeed. Like you say, most depots will have a schools in and schools out. But I think Bluestar is one of those places where that simply isn't possible, with so many competing forces and the ability to move work from one depot to the other if a problem arises.

    Go South Coast

Somewhere like Totton will have three different schedules in a typical week. A Monday only (Barton Peveril different start time) + Hythe services, Tuesday/Thursday (No Hythe) + Barton Peveril standard start time and Wed/Fri for Hythe locals + Barton Peveril standard start time. And then there...

Stagecoach Lake District by Bus 2024

The big change is the half hourly X4/X5 all the way to Penrith. On the Stagecoach website there are some other changes from the same date to the 104 and Penrith/Appleby service which look quite exciting to.

Plans to reopen Totton - Fawley/Hythe (again!)

On the recent Green Signals podcast, Richard Bowker made the point that a lot of these reverse Beeching "let's open X Y Z" lines because we should" schemes are made by well meaning people, but with not much footing in reality. He was referring specifically to the Waverley line south of Tweedbank...

Reductions to services prior to an eventual withdrawal

Some operators just don't have enough commercial staff by design and that can lead to timeframes being squashed significantly, which then leaves to things being missed. I can think of two examples within the same owner group. One has an excellent, well staffed commercial team and marketing...

The "Durham Coast Fliers" - Popular? No stop Hartlepool?

I think it would be wise for extra signage to be put up on Platform 3 before it opens, specifically for the mostly 2 car Northern trains. There is going to be mild consternation in some quarters as trains will be stopping at the far end, and not near the footbridge. I assume it's due to the...

Reductions to services prior to an eventual withdrawal

This is true as well. I remember Trent Barton of all operators NOT including the 141 route on its Network Map. Low and behold it was eventually withdrawn. Fair enough it's not a major route. But to not tell anybody about it is just careless.

Reductions to services prior to an eventual withdrawal

As somebody that has worked in a commercial department for two decades I can say with with high confidence that I've never been party to any action which has deliberately led to the withdrawal of a service. There has never ever been any discussion along the lines of "let's cut it a bit and then...

Trivia : companies that use Artificial Intelligence in bus timetables

I'd be interested to know if AI can work out which trips NOT to look at when reviewing historical data, such as driver changeover times. Otherwise you will end up with some of the ludicrous headways we've seen.... I think AI can be a useful tool, but it will never replace local knowledge and...

Bradford Interchange Bus Station closed until further notice

Maybe they think they know but don't actually know, hence why specialists are coming in. One of the articles above states that clearly "We will know more once the survey work has been fully completed and will not be commenting further on speculation until we know the facts." I assume once an...
