Trivia: Rarest BR locos to survive into preservation

Give it "09" gearing and it'd be a very handy thing at many preserved lines

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

One has to wonder how quick enthusiasts would be to defend WCRC if they were committing some breach with sprinters instead of 'proper train' mk1s

Throughput at gatelines with phone tickets compared to smart cards

There's also a considerable chunk of delay that's attributable to a significant number of people only pulling up the app when they're right on top of the gate

Coaching stock for steam tours in the future

I saw today on Facebook that riviera appear to be fitting opening windows to some AC MK2 coaches.

    Railfan interest among 18-35s

I'm 41. I like 47s in trainload freight schemes, Swallow HSTs, NSE and Large logo class 50s etc etc. That seems to track for me. Although aged about 8 i was incredibly disappointed to catch a 37 and Mk1s instead of the expected sprinter. That part i've definitely got over. Steam locos are...

    How are speed limits set?

if a line isnt scheduled to see stock faster than, say, 75mph max speed (and so all services are timetabled accordingly), is it considered that there is "no point" maintaining it to a standard for higher speeds and the limit set accordingly?

Coaching stock for steam tours in the future

I suspect even customers who were born decades after steam want it to feel 'old fashioned' so maybe wood panelling and strips of metal to make the windows look 'like the Hogwarts express' on a MK2 MK3 or mk4 will do?

Coaching stock for steam tours in the future

as a "car person" too, some performance cars, their engines muted by forced induction systems, have taken to piping sound into the cabin, which is roundly pilloried by enthusiasts, who also like to hear the machine.

That's definitely scratched that from the list.

Coaching stock for steam tours in the future

Thinking about long term options for steam tours, where opening windows are considered desirable, mk1s are increasingly treated as unsafe and most opening window mk2 have been bean tins for a long time, how feasible or likely are the following Converting MK2 aircons to PV and opening windows...

There's also the opposite direction flow from Ashley down to Filton abbey wood for UWE and the MOD. The bus service is dreadfully slow at peak times.

Trivia: Whats the furthest an un-rebuilt class 73 has made it off the southern?

one lived at Fairwater yard in Taunton in the late 00s for the purpose of shunting the HOBC. Though theoretically that's not far at all from the old southern at Yeovil etc

GWR Cornish Night Riviera Sleeper and GWR Class 57 updates from Long Rock

bit of a tangent, I know that you have to drive at least once every 6 months to maintain competence, but what constitutes "a drive" in this scenario? 10 minutes? 4 hours?

    Northern Ireland oddities(?)

Filton was, though, a dispersal base for V-bombers, most notably during the Cuban missile crisis, so it's an easy mistake to make. Flight operations ended in 2012 and the whole site is being given over to housing. There's some suggestion locally that the demolition crews breaking up the runway...

Freight trains(excluding infrastructure) still using 4 wheeled wagons.

Castle was part of Heidelberg Cement from 1999, and when Heidelberg also bought Hanson (around 2007), the Castle operations were gradually folded into the Hanson brand

Class 58's in France cut up

4 saved examples of a class of 50 not-especially-successful locos seems like a decent number. I'm sure a lot of steam fans would be giddy with excitement to have 4 examples of much larger and more successful classes

Steam railtours which don't usually have diesel attached to the rear

i thought Mk1s had to be "boxed in" by more modern stock/a loco these days? - this would have made it to the list below if i hadnt seen this picture a number of suggestions come to my mind as to why it's so heating and cooling aircon coaches operational convenience (most diesel hauled trains...
