    Timetable booklets

At least that's a railway station, so it's less weird than where I got my copy of the May-December main XC timetable. That was the tourist information centre in Hugh Town on the Isles of Scilly. I do realise that there's an easy link from there to Penzance station, although it is by sea....

    Antisocial behaviour on trains

Staff on duty do it as well - I'm deliberately saying any more than that! I'd say anti-social behaviour has been going on for years. Certainly people have been having loud (and seemingly endless) phone conversations for as long as I can remember.

ASLEF non-contractual overtime bans -various dates and TOCs

GWR have announced that the sleepers won't be running that week (which annoys me) but to my knowledge haven't declared any other cancellations yet.

    Timekeeping on the Ffestiniog

The one time I did the line we left Porthmadog on time but lost time gradually heading north and must have got to Caernarfon about 15 minutes late. Going back we were on time from Caernarfon to Rhyd Ddu but then had to wait the best part of half an hour for a late-running train coming the other...

    UK towns/cities with ring roads

You could argue Newcastle has an outer ring road that's formed of the M6 and A500.

Trivia: Which operator has taken on the most services forfeited by the big 3

Most of what they operate in Staffordshire used to be Arriva as well. Arriva pulled out of the area completely about 10 years ago now I think and D&G bought what they left behind. That's an interesting one, actually, as D&G had only sold their Stoke operations to Arriva a few years beforehand!

Trivia: Platforms on one 'fast' line but not the other?

Loughborough (Midland) isn't an answer to this question as both fast lines have platforms. However, only one of the slow lines does, so southbound stopping trains have to use the platform on the northbound line.

Major disruption in the Manchester area this evening

It's not been a good day for rail in Manchester. There's been a major problem, apparently something to do with signalling, in the Ashburys area, meaning that trains to Stalybridge, Hadfield, Marple or Sheffield have been cancelled or delayed. In hindsight I should have decided not to travel...

When was "London" added to the names of all the termini in the capital?

Given that the platform signs say London Euston (photo here), I'd assume that the London terminals are indeed named London Wherever. True the locals just call it Euston - but then they know where they are, similar to how Mancs know where they're talking about when they say Piccadilly station.

Trivia: Stations forming a cross (with 4 passenger routes from the station)

The layout there is shaped more like an equals sign. Although the Metrolink platforms are below the main train shed, the line lies wholly to the north of the through platforms so the two lines don't actually cross.

Trivia: Direct journeys you can make on a single bus that changes service en-route

Not that anyone would want to do this journey in full as you end up back where you started - but First PMT run the 3A from Hanley to Kidsgrove, where it changes to the 4A and returns to Hanley via Newcastle. Going the other way the number changes in Talke.

Jet2 to launch new base at Liverpool Airport in 2024

The terminals and runway 1 are within the city limits - but Manchester must have some of the most bizarre administrative boundaries of any local authority!

[Trivia] Things that are illegal on the railway that you don't expect to be.

Nothing in the bylaws to state you can't borrow someone else's dog. :D

Which type of train still in service today will you miss most when they've all been withdrawn from use on the national network?

I'll definitely miss the 323s. I hadn't realised how old they are but they don't look dated in my opinion and they still sound great! The 331s that seem to be coming in and replacing them aren't the same - but that could just be the nostalgia speaking.

Trivia: Over how many islands does the Network Rail system currently exist?

It's always hard to tell on a navigable river but is the island between the two branches of the Trent at Newark natural? If it is then Newark Castle is another station on an island.

Remaining First Class with decent complimentary offerings?

I appreciate I don't have the facility to travel with GWR very often (and even less in first) but either things have changed since they brought in the 80x's or I've been unlucky with the services I've travelled on. From personal experience you get drink and crisps/biscuits every hour or two...

    Harrogate unattended ticket barriers proposal

It's all right for some! The time I pressed the button for help I was apparently ignored completely. After a few minutes a cleaner turned up so I asked them to let me through!

Stations that don't contain the name of a settlement, particularly termini

Rose Hill station is a terminus that doesn't contain a place name - I think it's named after a house that doesn't exist any more. I appreciate it's also known as Rose Hill Marple but the boards at the station and displays on some of the trains don't agree with that.

30 longest heritage preserved railways in the UK

I'd recommend it - it's the only preserved line I've been on where staff hand out whisky and give a running commentary on what you can see through the window. I appreciate that probably won't happen every journey, of course, although the scenery would be pretty good all year. It also goes from...

    Double track line rationalisation cost/benefits

I was going to ask about that one to be honest. It's from west of Alsager to nearly Crewe actually - only a couple of miles but it means that when Avanti are redirected that way due to engineering works elsewhere (which seems to happen surprisingly often - but of course that wasn't foreseen...
