    Thameslink Core congestion (01/02)

    They cancel trains.

Dispatching a train in the dark under DOO

I mean, he could have just leaned out of the window and shouted, "Hello. This is the driver. Is anyone trapped in the doors?" but sure, waste 15 minutes walking around in the dark to make a point when people just want to get to work, sounds pretty much par for the course with trains.

I wasn't suggesting the two trains should have tailgated each other down the line, just think it wouldn't have been asking much for the late-running train to stop at the stations unfortunate-enough to only get 2tph, to stop there being an hour-long gap in the middle of rush hour. Surely would...

Send the busiest commuter train of the morning down from Peterborough into London without actually stopping to pick any passengers up, nah, that would never happen. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/W64291/2018/10/29/advanced

    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

It was only last week that someone was hit by a train at Arlesey. A grim few weeks up here. Re. parking, at Arlesey in the morning the pick-up bay, which only has three spaces anyway, is completely taken up with a snack van which is always parked there. Not very helpful really, but no doubt...

    Platform Edge Sitting

Indeed, plus there was an emphasis on taking personal responsibility for one's own actions, something which the current generation of young people has become the first probably in the history of human existence to be told they're uniquely incapable of — and therefore legally prevented from —...

    Platform Edge Sitting

Weren't as many people wearing headphones in the good old days but I wouldn't exactly say they were bastions of safety.

Whenever I've seen something he's done on YouTube I've always been amazed at how loudly he talks in public — I knew it would only be a matter of time before he started plugging himself into the PA system!

Dog died after lead trapped in train doors at station

If the child was on reins and the parent went up onto the train first (and so would be holding the reins), so they could turn round and then hold out a hand for it to climb up, it's certainly a possibility that it could happen if the door closed as they were stepping in. It's why when we got on...

I imagine the people who don't like being in a busy carriage move down to a quieter one, and those who accept being in the presence of other humans when outside stay where they are.

I understand that there was a serious incident at Gatwick, but the tragedy of that aside, speaking logistically, people trying to use the trains from Hitchin and northwards, or get there from London, now have no train service during the evening rush hour (edit: actually there are some northbound...

At least you can walk the mile-and-a-bit to Crawley station if needs be. Not such a fan of the six miles and 60mph country lanes with no pavement from Arlesey to Hitchin!

Major disruption at Ayr Station due to dangerous old hotel (from August 2018)

Err, you ever been to Continental Europe? They have many, many more old buildings than we do here, and stricter planning rules for new buildings too, to avoid "damaging their heritage". You could say there's a problem of things being sold to overseas asset strippers who have no interest in...

Breastfeeding Mother Forced to Stand on Train

I stopped reading the BBC "News" website, and whenever its offerings crop up in other areas of the internet, I don't find much to tempt me back.

    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

National Rail disruption page currently says it'll all be sorted by 11:00 (i.e. in 80 minutes). Err, nope. City Thameslink arrivals board is carnage.

    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

In an absolutely massive shock, the delays and cancellations they said would be sorted by 1500 are still stretching down to at least 1730, even with extravagant implementation of skip stopping. It's something no one could have predicted!
  18. K

    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

Some of the skip stopping's a bit odd. 0555 Kings Cross to Cambridge North skip stopped WGC because it was five minutes late, then drove through Welwyn North two minutes late and then also failed to stop at Knebworth despite arriving at the station bang on time. Not sure the passengers would...

Wow, what's happened this morning? Six of the next ten trains at Hitchin are cancelled.

    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

I've actually been avoiding using the Arlesey-Kings Cross trains during the weekend because the service frequency/reliability is still so poor, but on Sunday had no alternative so had to give it a go. The 1023 got cancelled, so I had low expectations about the 1123, given that it would have two...
