    What about a franchising system by 'area' of the UK? So one operator who operates all services to/from stations in a certain area (e.g. the East, the West etc.) and have one franchise for routes that link these areas up? (a bit like CrossCountry) This obviously would need tweaking to ensure...

    I don't think I've seen this type of thread anywhere but if there is, let me know. I thought that this would be quite an exciting thread to talk about how the railways could be adapted to be better suited for the future. This thread would be for what ideas you think could work in order to do this.
