    How could Lumo expand/develop/improve?

Just a quick pricing comparison for a train from Edinburgh to London, and Glasgow to London, around 4pm on the following 4 fridays. Lumo £67 £59 £59 £60 Avanti £85 £85 £67 £46 Neither seem particularly good value, but at least Avanti drop their prices further in advance.

    How could Lumo expand/develop/improve?

Having personally done Lumo+Scotrail to Queen St on this route a few observations Lumo advance prices are nowhere near the £20 when they launched. You're looking at £50 far in advance unless you want to travel on a wednesday. Avanti Superfare can be had for £30 Glasgow-London, and late evening...

TPE to go 2-hourly Glasgow/Edinburgh on WCML from June (still at 110mph?)

So I guess nothing to get excited about because even if they did introduce 125mph (without ETCS) it would only save a few minutes Glasgow to Manchester? I understand the NOVAs have better acceleration than the Pendolinos so they already make up a bit there. The thread title is directly from...

TPE to go 2-hourly Glasgow/Edinburgh on WCML from June (still at 110mph?)

https://www.railwaygazette.com/uk/battery-traction-trial-ahead-as-transpennine-express-fortunes-improve/65838.article Hopefully seeing a better service now on the WCML. About a year ago almost all the TPE services I attempted to travel on were cancelled. Any news about allowing their...

Table of 4 reading spotlight angles on Pendolinos

Just a little bored on a long journey!

Table of 4 reading spotlight angles on Pendolinos

ok. very nerdy question. but when you have a table of 4 on a pendolino, you get 2 overhead reading spotlights for each pair of seats. are these angled differently so that one projects to the aisle seat, and the other to the window seat? if so then which one is for the window seat?

    Glasgow Subway new stock

doors open more slowly than old stock so 30 minute round circle trip rather than 24 minutes. might be improved if they get platform barriers to align with the doors?

Refund on separate going+return tickets for a weekend trip when only outward journey cancelled?

Seatfrog (Superfare tickets), so lets see how the refund goes. A quick search on this forum suggests somebody had to do a credit card chargeback due to their lack of response on refunds. Hopefully not the case for me.

Refund on separate going+return tickets for a weekend trip when only outward journey cancelled?

Ok. But technically I have two separate journeys "Glasgow to London" and some days later "London to Glasgow". They are not on the same itinerary. And actually "London to Glasgow" ran just fine, but obviously I wasn't there to get on it. It doesn't seem the above rules directly refer to my...

Refund on separate going+return tickets for a weekend trip when only outward journey cancelled?

Ok. So I guess there is some official rule which states this? or is it based on the goodwill of retailers?

Refund on separate going+return tickets for a weekend trip when only outward journey cancelled?

I booked an advance single from Glasgow to London last Friday afternoon, and an advance single from London to Glasgow last Sunday evening. The plan was for a weekend in London. The two tickets were purchased in separate bookings. All Friday trains were cancelled because of the storm, so I...

Returning short on Stansted Express at Tottenham Hale

Ah interesting point. Although on this occasion where I want to be is closer to Oxford Circus.

Returning short on Stansted Express at Tottenham Hale

No. Definitely an Advance, as I saved a few pounds on that price. Also, I can see that there is now step-free train-tube interchange at Tottenham Hale, so would definitely prefer this if the gateline staff are unlikely to object.

Returning short on Stansted Express at Tottenham Hale

London Liverpool St to Stansted Airport. Advance Open Return. About £30. Valid on Stansted Express only.

Returning short on Stansted Express at Tottenham Hale

I have an Advance Open Return Stansted Express ticket from Liverpool St. I want to get to Soho on my return, and can see it's quicker to change onto the Victoria Line at Tottenham Hale. The ticket rules are clear "you cannot start, break or resume, or end your journey at any intermediate...

Which TFW trains South Wales to Manchester Picc use loco-hauled Mk 4's?

Thanks for the replies. Is the sprinter substitution completely random or is it for less busy days e.g. wednesdays?

Which TFW trains South Wales to Manchester Picc use loco-hauled Mk 4's?

I guess this is the Cardiff to Manchester 'Premiere' route. I have been trying to pull this information out of the timetables using the 1st class marked times, but when checking what actually ran it seems some journeys were made with sprinters! Does anyone have a list of the times that use Mk...

How could the railway be more attractive for London-Glasgow journeys

A point not covered so far on this thread. Now that the local WCML operators such as West Midland Trains and TPE are upgrading their rolling stock to faster accelerating units, and I believe some freight is also getting speed-upgraded, does this open up opportunities for faster Avanti journeys...

How could the railway be more attractive for London-Glasgow journeys

Singapore Airlines actually ran a short-lived Rail-Fly scheme with GWR from 2015 until Covid I think https://news.gwr.com/news/first-rail-fly-partnership-in-the-uk-to-launch Bristol, Oxford, Cornwall to Singapore with all train delays covered. I have a hazy memory that they even did...

    Avanti Superfare

Interesting as I thought the 19:30 would be the least busy, and thus what they'd use for Superfare. I've noticed that Superfare fairly well matches the time of the cheapest Advance within the time window.
