I know when I worked for FCC, they provided a taxi home if you wanted one, if your start/finish time was between 00:00 and 06:00 if I remember correctly.
I remember being asked what the public expects from a train driver and my answer was that people dont think about him/her they just expect them to be a professional who knows his job.
other tham bringing back an onboard presence like a guard, there is always twitter to the toc in question who could pass the info on to btp and have the train stopped at best station to deal with it.
I have written reports in capitals for 20 years in the prison service as it is encouraged to make reports clear and easy to read, this has carried over in my role as a train driver.
dont put sky diving or racing car driver at the weekends for obvious reasons :D I put golf and keep fit as its true and they like calm individuals who can fit in the cab :p
Let them get on with it and report the delay, it is beyond your control and might result in personal injury, make an announcement to other passengers stating cause of the delay.
