Glasgow Central - low level refurbishment

Seems like the planning application has been approved (yay). I wonder when Scotrail will give the details regarding when the works are to take place. https://publicaccess.glasgow.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=R7HT72EXI9X00

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2

Maybe it's because I've been living on the continent for too long, but what I care about most of all is not what the individual designs look like (frankly, one could argue that this RA2 sign is alright, where others are perhaps a bit bland or ugly, or even both). What matters most to me is...

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2

Well, I think what the shoddy implementation so far has shown is that until GBR comes into force or Britain's (or rather England's) railways are entirely renationalised, standardised signposting and the likes will simply not happen. For some select things, taking a one-size fits all approach...

Glasgow Central - low level refurbishment

Ok, so as predicted, Glasgow LL will (hopefully) receive a refresh later on, perhaps in a few months or a year or so. What about Argyle Street though, because unlike Anderston (where work is currently taking place) and Glasgow LL (where work is supposed to take place in the future), I'm not...

Glasgow Central - low level refurbishment

With the Argyle line reopening on Monday, I'd like to ask if anyone here knows whether Argyle Street or Glasgow Central Low Level will also have been refurbished . It seems to me that only Anderston will have undergone gone major work in the last few months, with Glasgow Central presumably...

Could be a reference to the target market?

    Bus Manufacturer News & Discussion

Apologies, I seem to have developed an unhealthy habit of going off on a tangent. I think it comes from an urge to discuss some topics more broadly, but I understand that things should be kept on-topic whenever possible. Anyway, yes, I've only ever travelled on Yutong buses in Denmark (in the...

    Bus Manufacturer News & Discussion

Mod note - post moved from First Glasgow thread God I hope not. On a side note: Why is the European bus market so weak when it comes to electric buses? I'd prefer it be Enviro 200EVs, personally. Not sure whether Wright currently have a single-deck EV on the market or whether the respective...

Great British Railways: Livery, branding and appearance?

Very nice indeed! To keep things simple and consistent (the original aim, after all) the colour stripe could perhaps be GBR region specific and consistent within a single region. For example, green could be used for Southern, red for Eastern etc.

    First Greater Glasgow

Well, yes, I suppose anything but a complete lack of colour and logos is already some sort of branding. That said, setting aside ads and the odd description in tiny, virtually illegible letters, London's buses are kept very simple in terms of their branding. When I say passengers don't really...

    First Greater Glasgow

Well, I'm a bit of an enthusiast myself and I too would prefer simple/consistent branding, but I suppose others might prefer variety over monotony. Same thing goes for train liveries, really.

    First Greater Glasgow

Indeed, I don't think most "ordinary" passengers really care about branding, except in those instances when it actually helps them navigate the system. Mostly, that'll be through consistent branding across all lines (i.e. in London: "hey, there's one of those red buses, I think that's the one we...

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

Fair enough, but that would have to be a matter of personal preference then. Just to be clear, I also think the timetables and maps could be improved (I've certainly seen a lot better in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Denmark), but I still prefer Lothian's to Firstbus's. I also find...

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

I'm sure this has been asked before, but are there any plans to increase frequencies on some lines from 5 to 6 buses an hour, or dare I say it, even 8 buses an hour? Maybe these lines could receive special branding, just to market that fact a wee bit (some cities use the term "Metrobus", or in...

Transport for Strathclyde – A New Public Transport Network

Indeed, though presumably that would be one of the most important goals of "Transport for Strathclyde" (should it manage to get off the ground at some point). At the moment, there seem to be a lot of voices saying "pie in the sky" and "it'll never happen", but presuming it does, what kind of...

    Suggested revision to SPT Zonecard

Yeah, but I'm thinking about how trips done with a future smart card could be more expensive depending on whether you stick to a certain part of Glasgow, or move around a bit more. That's why I'd prefer a single zone, keeps things simple.

    Suggested revision to SPT Zonecard

I think Glasgow itself should definitely be a single zone, anything else just becomes messy in my view. In fact, I'm generally not a fan of several zones in cities to be honest, unless we're talking about a city the size of London. I'd much rather prefer the city itself to be a single zone...

Transport for Strathclyde – A New Public Transport Network

That's all very true and to imagine that merely integrating transport will resolve these issues over night is of course laughable. That said, perhaps a combination of: 1) Progressively moving away from car-centric policies and planning principles. 2) Increasing funding streams for higher...

Transport for Strathclyde – A New Public Transport Network

Precisely! In some cases it might be about the demand for orbital routes per se, but most of the time that is just an added bonus and what is instead created is a grid or web like system of integrated (preferably high-frequency) routes, so people can more easily get from A to B with fewer...

Transport for Strathclyde – A New Public Transport Network

Yeah, I expect so... However, if there are long-term plans for a light-rail in Greater Glasgow, then an orbital route of some sort should be heavily considered, or at least a line that links a certain number of Scotrail commuter lines. I suppose the Clyde Metro is a nod in that direction, though...
