    Police Constable to Railway

I've got an ex PC out with me at the moment doing his training and he's loving it since he left the force, he wishes he had left sooner. He's taken to the driving grade well.

Journalist detected. Of course you’re writing a novel mate!

How 2 become a Train driver

I will be totally honest with you, it is very difficult to get a trainee train driver role. You will need to improve your written and spoken English if you're going to have any chance of passing the sift and the assessments that follow. I'd start with an English course to brush up on this...

Drivers, what did you do beforehand?

One guy at my depot used to be an airline pilot, he prefers the rest pattern on the railways and being home every night, although he used to earn a lot more working as a pilot.

    Police Constable to Railway

Just to clear things up, I have no problem with anyone joining the railway be that ex police, fire, military, ambulance or any other profession. As long as they come into the role with an open mind and are willing to learn and put the hard work in. My posts may have come across a little harsh...

    Police Constable to Railway

I worked as an airline pilot before so I haven't been on the railway "all my days" but I have been driving many years.

    Police Constable to Railway

I don't, however what I do take exception to is people bring their past working "attitudes" into the railway environment and this is something I've experienced as I said. It's not just me but quite a few drivers have said that the working environment is being lowered because of the huge influx...

    Police Constable to Railway

I have no idea? So are you saying you took the easier route then?

    Police Constable to Railway

I'm sorry to sound harsh but YES you should have known that the above would occur, I would know that and I don't know anything about your industry.

    Police Constable to Railway

Ask yourself this question would you do the job for £20k per year? I bet the answer would be NO for the majority. So you're applying for a train driver role based on the salary (which is fine) but if you REALLY wanted to do the role then surely you would have been a train driver before...
