XC strike Sat 13th April OFF

It's the early finish that's the problem for me as I'll have to catch 3 trains to get from Oxford to Coventry! If any of those trains go wrong it's going to be a very late night for my five year old. The fact they've said "further information on timetables will be shared shortly" gives me a bit...

No trains to call at Altnabreac for the foreseeable future

I am staying near Llangunllo over Easter and planning on using the station multiple times a day. If all goes to plan tomorrow, my son and I will arrive on the 12.29, catch the 14.39 to go shopping in Knighton, arrive back on the 16.22 and then meet my wife off the 19.14. So by the end of the...

Decent station between Stafford and Euston?

Atherstone is the one definitely. There is a pub that serves food very close by called The Kings Head (next to the canal). It is a very short stroll into the town centre where there are lots of cafes and eateries. The hourly LNW semi-fast arrives and departs there from Stafford and Euston only 5...

Landslip at Wellington (Shropshire), Birmingham - Shrewsbury services suspended

I'm travelling between Northampton and the Heart of Wales line on the 28th March. Sods law, I purchased tickets two days ago with a split at Birmingham. I really want to avoid the rail replacement coach as I'll have my five year old with me and last time we caught a coach, he projectile vomited...

GTR employee bids to visit all 2,580 GB railway stations in 6 weeks

I am a proud owner of David Brewer's book, "Britain's Least Used Stations." He visited and took photos of every railway station between 2007 and 2011.

    Single-track station on double-track railway?

Is Corby an example? I also seem to remember Princes Risborough only having one platform a decade or so ago.

Sitting with a person when a train is empty

Depending on where they were getting off, they may have just thought that moving wasn't worth the bother. Especially if kids had food, games, toys out. They were probably also conscious that when they told the kids they were moving there'd be the ubiquitous "why?" which may have made the...

Landslip between Rugby and Coventry. (11/02/24)

Yes, in the same way I'm grateful to the debt ridden, mass polluting water companies that I can still get clean water out of my tap.

Landslip between Rugby and Coventry. (11/02/24)

That's interesting I never knew that. In this case however, I think it's more to do with DIRFT chucking a load of money at Stagecoach as their logo had appeared all over the timetable, bus stops, etc...

Landslip between Rugby and Coventry. (11/02/24)

I probably have encountered you then, or at least my wife, who catches the 96 twice a day, will have. It's frustrating how long the 96 now takes to get to Rugby. I can accept going round Ryehill as it's important for elderly people, but the detour round DIRFT is getting silly now. Why do...

Landslip between Rugby and Coventry. (11/02/24)

I live in Long Buckby and the coach from Rugby has always managed to find the village eventually, despite taking drastically different routes! We never know until we're nearly there whether it will pass the end of our road or not. Last time the driver agreed to drop us off early. It was a bit...

Landslip between Rugby and Coventry. (11/02/24)

Yes fair point, it's the lack of an express rail replacement from Northampton that's an issue, the Rugby to Coventry part is as quick as it can be.

Landslip between Rugby and Coventry. (11/02/24)

Northampton to Rugby is pretty bad as it takes 57 minutes instead of 22-24 minutes! I believe the same bus then continues to Coventry - I can't see an express bus on journey planners. If that is the case, Northampton to Coventry journey time is nearly trebled, from 35 minutes to 1hr 33.

Landslip between Rugby and Coventry. (11/02/24)

It's a disgrace that LNWR aren't running anything between Northampton and Rugby. They could run an hourly shuttle with one unit and crew! Long Buckby commuters and anyone travelling North from Northampton have been completely shafted. There must be something I'm missing. If it's just the bay...

    Polesworth

Most of the walk is really nice as the canal passes through a country park, a beautiful nature reserve with lakes and even the bit of the canal through Tamworth is interesting. When you leave the canal, it's boring: suburbs, main roads, roundabouts. One thing to note: Google maps shows a...

Trains skipping stations when they are less than 5 minutes late

Could the driver (in conjunction with the guard if applicable) open the doors if safely platformed? Or would that break some kind of rule?

Can staff refuse to let you through a barrier when abandoning a journey?

Similar experience at Coventry gateline when I was cross examined after my return portion of a Rugby to Banbury off peak return was rejected by the barriers. Stated as if it was fact that this meant the ticket had been used before (it hadn't!)

Avanti WC down the pan again

It was! I guess calling myself Joey Beauchamp gives it away somewhat. Yes it's not been a bad day but I just hate unprofessionalism in a customer facing role. Save it for your break / wife / WhatsApp group FFS.

Avanti WC down the pan again

So I've used Avanti today Rugby to Carlisle and back again. Didn't think I'd have to use this thread as the train turned up and is still moving. However, I'm sat in Coach C by the shop and the train manager and the shop manager have had a convoluted conversation with and about the driver and a...
