Northern Trainee Train Driver Roles- Various Locations

If it’s like last year, multiple courses will start from the one advertisement. I applied last June and heard nothing until October, 6 weeks later I was on a course. Others started long before me and some afterwards.

    Low Blood Pressure

If your employer already knows then it shouldn’t be an issue. My brother in law has low blood pressure and is a commercial pilot for BA. You do need to inform your employer if you have any fainting incidents, but other than that I don’t see how the railway would be any different to airlines.

    TraineeTrainDriverInfo.com

Everything you need is on this forum. Search the threads, read everything relevant and it’ll be a massive help. I’m proof, I start as a trainee driver next week - it’s the only job I applied for and this forum is the only resource I used for research.

Anyone starting driver training for Northern on 17/12?

Hello mate I haven’t got my contract yet, but HR have been great to be honest, sorting me a medical and start date all within a couple of weeks.

Anyone starting driver training for Northern on 17/12?

Thank you! And thanks for the advice, though I’d never breach any employers social media policy. My username is also my email anyway so I’m not anonymous. I see it all the time on the Royal Mail employee FB pages, people slagging the company off or posting operations information which is...

Anyone starting driver training for Northern on 17/12?

Evening all I’ve just found out that I’ve passed the medical, so I officially start as a Trainee Driver for Northern in 13 days! Anyone else here starting the course in Leeds that week? I’ll be based in Sheffield for my driving when it gets to the practical stage.

    The Tones Test on OPC

If you’re not sure of anything before any of the tests, just ask the examiner. They’re there to help you. :D

    Freightliner Various Trainee Drivers

Haha it’s a good one isn’t it. Different TOC but I had mine last week and seriously handicapped myself as I’d been up nearly all night with my daughter, was totally knackered and could only hear the sound of my heart pounding through my ears! I still passed grade 1 but had no idea what I’d...

Nursing to train driving, career change, advice please...

I’ve recently been offered a trainee driving role after spending nearly 22 years as a Postman. I still enjoy the job in some ways, but have had enough of completely unachievable workloads, hardly ever having two days off together, getting cold, wet and miserable (the older I get the more I feel...

Trainee Driver Interview - Northern Manchester

Mine was changed from Manchester to Sheffield, I passed and start training in 2 weeks!

RSSB- 2 Strike rule- Train Driver

Being brutally honest, I think the two strikes rule is perfectly fair. The assessments aren’t difficult, but they do test the abilities you’ll need as well as being able to work under pressure. One guy on my assessment day failed because he misunderstood a question, and only circled one set...

    Drink Driving

    Yeah let’s hope so!

    Drink Driving

Christ, he’s thinking about not declaring drink driving and I’ve just told the examiner during my medical that I had a lemsip last Friday

    Drink Driving

Surely the chances are zero. It’s a strict safety critical role so the chances of being accepted when you’ve recently been caught drink driving should be nought.

    Network Rail Signalling Secondment

From reading the signalling thread it seems there is very little chance that NR will spend 80k training someone, only to let them go after a short period. And the grade doesn’t matter, you can walk off the street into a grade 9 post and there’s nothing stopping you from applying for any grade...

    Conundrum

What the others have said, I’d be happy sitting the assessments again. Plus you know exactly what’s coming so it should be even easier next time. I can’t believe you’ve waited that long for an DMI. I did my DMI first last month, sat my Assessments last week and did them all plus the MMI in one...

A career as a train driver

6 weeks from my first interview, not the application! Now I realise why you thought I was telling porkies  I applied in June, had my first interview at the end of October and start my course on the 17th December. That’s assuming I pass my medical next week!

Northern Driver Training course in Leeds, do you spend the whole year there?

Brilliant, thanks guys. I was considering booking the Easyhotel near Leeds station for some of the weeks to ease the travelling, but if I get paid to travel from Sheffield then I might as well commute each day.
