    Shortest-lived rolling stock

No one has mentioned the DLR P89s yet. In service 1989 to 95.

    Class 710 LO

I see from the notes on the railway centre picture of the day that these haven't gone down well with the locals of the Enfield/Cheshunt lines. The longitudinal seating is not liked and I don't blame them.

    3tph on North Downs Line

Fair enough, definitely accept that with Blackwater, less so with North Camp which has half Farnborough's numbers. It does lead to another point though. The narrow crossing at Farnborough struggles to handle the student numbers arriving in the morning, it takes several minutes for them to clear...

    3tph on North Downs Line

I use Farnborough and I am disappointed that it's not going to benefit from this. Unless I'm reading the passenger stats wrong then it's busier than North Camp and Blackwater, so you'd have thought it would feature on the semi fast service.

    Foot crossing called 'Nowhere'

Yes, I know Sod Hall Lane well, it's not a map makers joke, although calling it a lane is being a bit generous. It's a farmyard track which runs on top of a causeway across the fields. I remember back in the 80s it was quite open and people did take their cars across the crossing, but these days...

Trivia: Quantity of TOCs between two stations

If you treat the two WM trains brands as different operating companies, then the Wolverhampton, Birmingham New Street, Birmingham International corridor also has 5. Also TfW, West Coast and Cross Country.

TPE Class 397 ('Nova 2') construction and updates

It can't be that simple? I don't imagine that any passenger would accept that a class 350 and a class 185 are equivalent.

    'EYESORES'

Preston stations new entrance made the shortlist for the 2017 Carbuncle Award. I can't see it ever growing on me. https://www.bdonline.co.uk/news/carbuncle-cup-2017-winner-announced/5089506.article

    Britain's noisiest trains

I'm misinterpreting the question, but it's a Central class 323 towards the end of their franchise for me. They were fitted with TV monitors, and a trip along the cross city line with the volume turned up to 11 was not nice. There was nowhere on the train you could escape the noise.

Trivia: Stations which have been renamed?

New Malden has been renamed multiple times. Before it became New Malden it was always a variation containing one or both of Malden and Coombe. It was Coombe and Malden when HG Wells was writing about it in The Argonauts of the Air.

    London to Newcastle without tunnels?

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. Unfortunately she won't get on a plane, so I think a coach is going to be our best bet.

07:00 Dorking to London unscheduled stop

The 07:00 Dorking to London Waterloo runs semi fast between Epsom and Raynes Park (missing out Ewell, Stoneleigh and Motspur Park). This morning, after as we were leaving Worcester Park the guard announces that due to the severe late running of the train (about 7 or 8 minutes) we would be...

    London to Newcastle without tunnels?

My mother in law lives in South London and she has extended family in Newcastle upon Tyne and my wife want to take her up to visit by train. The only problem is my mother in law is clautrophobic and won't travel anywhere where there's a tunnel. My wife has tried contacting Network Rail and...
