Summons by TIL on behalf of Chiltern and a lying ticket enforcer

You know on that programme with David Mitchell and Lee Mack, and sometimes they press a button and the word 'true' comes up behind them ? I think the train company's contention is that the other button should have been pressed...

Is it an offence to buy tickets on a pay as you go basis, rather than all in one, at the start of the journey?

I do similar. Whenever I go from Selby to Heathrow, I buy my Selby to London ticket, and then just sort out the bit to Heathrow using contactless when I get down there. It just seems like less fannying about than trying to force the Trainline to give me the correct ticket combination I want...

Compensation for needing to catch earlier service

My gut reaction on opening this was something on the lines of 'No chance' and 'What a cheek' but, actually, this is a pretty good point.

London Overground services missing out stops to recover the service

Here's a supplemental question.... Bearing in mind that my local station is Wressle, with occasional bouts of Howden and Selby, it always seems odd to me that they bother with passenger timetables at all down in that London. When trains are going every ten to fifteen minutes, why not just turn...

London Overground services missing out stops to recover the service

This was an in-train announcement, so it was really people who were already on, wearing earphones, etc. that missed it.

London Overground services missing out stops to recover the service

I was out with my son yesterday and he was telling me a story about how he once got an Overground from Shepherds Bush to Stratford but, because the train was running late, they cut out a lot of stations and went direct to Stratford. Anyway, I was on the Overground from Shepherds Bush to...

    Railcard pre-selected on Trainline app

I nearly fell foul of this the other week. I'd bought some tickets for one of my sons (who has a railcard). Next time I went to buy some for myself to go down to London, I was surprised at how cheap they were. I only just noticed that the railcard was still being applied before I paid :)

    On-Train Ticket Checks

Just a side observation, but I've noticed that you get your ticket checked less in 1st compared to Standard. My guess is that, with reservations, they know how many people should be in there, so as long as the numbers tally up and no-one obviously 'doesn't fit' then they don't ask so as not to...

    Class 309 up for disposal

I know it isn't the Flying Scotsman, but surely these have enough historic merit that the NRM should step in and preserve at least one end.

Northern re-records 34 station name announcements with local pronunciation

How else can you pronounce Chesterfield other than as its spelt ?

Delay Repay - How would this work

Now I see the tickets, it looks like Trainline sold him split tickets (Birmingham to Doncaster and Doncaster to Selby, both off-peak returns), so it looks like I just claim on the Birmingham to Doncaster ticket.

Delay Repay - How would this work

My son is currently on the 1503 from Birmingham New Street, getting to Doncaster at 1717, in time for the 1726 Hull Trains getting into Selby at 1743 on an Off-Peak return However, the first train is currently 50 minutes late, so it is unlikely it will make up enough time to get the connection...

    Boarding as doors are closing

Better now than in the days of slam door commuter trains, when people would regularly get on (and off) whilst the train was already in motion. I remember seeing one guy who'd not got things right, having to be hauled in by other passengers when the train was out of the platform.

Would facial recognition software help with fare evasion/false details given etc?

Tangential to the discussion, I know, but I took part in the London Marathon on Sunday and, to get your photos of the event, you had to take a selfie and its facial recognition did the rest. Bearing in mind that 50,000 people were taking part, it instantly came up with 122 pictures, all of...

Things you don't see in trains any longer

That reminds of some years ago, taking my young children on such a DMU on the Wensleydale. A pheasant chose to fly (furiously) about 2 foot from the front of the train for several miles before it eventually worked out that pulling off to the side would be better...

    Heathrow Ticketing

To be fair, I didn't buy the ticket there - I had purchased it in advance. The problem was the people telling me it would be OK up to (and through) the gate...

    Heathrow Ticketing

I appreciate that not everyone will agree with me here, but bear in mind that Heathrow is where many foreigners will arrive into the country and need to start buying tickets... I recently bought a ticket from London Underground Zones 1-6, home to York. I am aware that the Elizabeth Line to...

[Trivia] Largest railway station not to have lifts and smallest to have lifts?

Selby is having lifts installed as we speak, but that was always the case there as well, for anyone in a wheelchair or with a buggy

End of the line for return rail tickets

This 'could' work for me in one particular scenario. I live near Selby, and occasionally have to go to either Heathrow or Manchester Airport for flights. Obviously I can commit to a 'going out' time, but when you come back is always a lottery, so I either have to buy open tickets, or put...
