Depends on the TOC. My TOC put my straight through for managers interview and medical once they realised I had passed my stage 1 and 2 testing with another TOC.

Yes they are now progressing, but sadly there is a massive backlog of trainees who have passed rules, traction etc who are still waiting for driving instructors. They are only putting on one more more course this year in March so I think recruitment is going to be paused again or slowed right...

I think the next course is scheduled to start in March and those spaces have been allocated. Not sure for which depots though. Also there won’t be as much training this year due to the backlog of people waiting for driving instructors etc. Although I have heard there will be a lot of potential...

Sorry for delay. I did indeed start, we are doing distance learning via zoom and having to go to the ROC at Basingstoke for some days for exams and sims.

SWR Trainee Driver

Just an update, SWR are working their way through candidates waiting for a start date and trying to allocate courses for next year. I have just passed my medical (again) on Friday and I have a new start date now of January 11th 2021. I applied for Weymouth.

SWR are slowly working their way though the backlog of candidates and giving them dates. I have a new date now to start on 11th January 2021.

Hi all, Has anyone been through trainee driver training with SWR at Basingstoke recently, or currently on a course there? How long is the basic training at Basingstoke, and how long do you need to travel there for, before going back to Depot or Southampton? Trying to work out if I should...

I'm now awaiting a new start date with SWR due to COVID as my course was cancelled, but also awaiting a DMI for Exeter should SWR not come off for whatever reason. Seems GWR recruitment slowed down somewhat even before COVID really kicked off?

Just on this, I'd be keen to find out what the Weymouth pattern is specifically like if anyone has any ideas? Just so me and the missus can have a look at it and work out what she is going to do with her job and childcare. Anyone have a copy of the shift pattern?

I was due to start on March 30th, for Weymouth depot. Hopefully will get a new start date soon. Especially now that SWR have resumed training in the past week apparently.

Had an email from SWR today. Still no update on when training will resume at this time.

Ah this is great news, perhaps now there will be a national approach. Personally I dont see why it would be an issue now.

Just on SWR recruitment, I had a phone call last week saying that they are trying to resume training as soon as possible, as long as they can get the go ahead to resume from the department for transport. DfT don't see new recruits or trainee drivers as business critical at present due to COVID...
