    A career as a signaller

Hi, Does anyone know what NWR's policy on bereavement leave is please, assuming there is one? Had a look but all I could find was stuff relevant to maternity/paternity pay etc. Thanks

No worries. All I would say is the job is absolutely worth the wait, so whilst I appreciate that for different people personal circumstances may dictate they have to grab something which comes along sooner, if you've the means to hold out I'd fully recommend doing so :-). All the best!

Personally it was: May '17 - Applied (went through all the tests etc within a fortnight then radio silence until...), Sep '17 - Invited to interview Oct '17 - Interview and got the thumbs up a few days later Feb '18 - First day on the job Vis a vis your 3 month wait isn't too unusual matey...

    Oyster Gold Card Discounts

Ah amazing; many thanks to you all for the extremely helpful replies. Very much appreciated! I'd forgotten about the zone 6 boundary thingy so as suggested will just get myself a a return to Marlow from there and the better half one from Paddington. Cheers!

    Oyster Gold Card Discounts

Hello all, through my employer I get an annual 'Gold Record Card' Oyster Zones 1-6. I recently learned that apparently this should enable me to 1/3 off the price of tickets for train travel outside of London, for both myself and up to 3 adults travelling with me. Does anyone know if this is...

Thanks Godfrey, a nice articulate reply to a question that could easily have rubbed someone up the wrong way :-) I suppose where I'm new I still have my 'commuter' hat on sometimes, namely I remember the countless cold mornings I've stood waiting for trains that never showed up as people I saw...

    A career as a signaller

Just out of curiosity why is that? I don't have any great political leanings but, maybe this sounds selfish, reckon I've landed a very well recompensed job with great perks and working conditions and so my first thought would be to carry on working as normal regardless of stike actions. I'm not...

Just out of curiosity, what happens if they absolutely can't see eye to eye? Is it the case that eventually someone would have to give an inch or....? Is there precedent for this happening? (Only joined in Feb of last year so this is my first exposure to the negotiations).

    A career as a signaller

Morning all, Does anyone know how the payment is calculated for when you take annual leave and get an extra bump as technically you were unable to work OT while away? This will be my first year of getting it (only been passed out for 9 months) so was just going to try and do a few sums to give...

    A career as a signaller

Morning all, I just have a quick question about overtime. Apologies if it's slightly off topic, I just figured this thread has the highest concentration of signallers so is the best place to get an answer. Basically how is the pecking order for OT decided upon by rosters? It was my...

Thanks for the updates re the pay negotiations. With regards take home pay and the potential to 'bump it up', with a bit of luck and willing on your part it's incredibly achievable. I say luck; this isn't necessarily the best word as in my location it means one resident on long term sickness...

Morning all, any updates on the % pay increase for 2019? I've been off for a couple of weeks so haven't seen any info on it.

    A career as a signaller

Prior to becoming a signaller I spent 8 years doing an office job for a company who made perfumes, so I think it's fair to say most if not all past careers have at least a shot at getting you a job haha. I don't think my employment history could be further from police/army/fire service etc if I...

Hi, I have a question in a similar vein to the one asked by Tom Quinne. Is there any extra pay associated with working new years day? I'm down to do 31st, 1st & 2nd. Grade 2 box on a 12 hour rota if that makes any difference. I only passed out a couple of months back so this will be my first NY...
