TPE services allocated for Double units

Yes. I've not actually experienced the rear set being locked out of use for a while (commuting mostly on the 0808 from Sheffield and the 1818 from Man Pic). There was a week or two in January where it happened several times in quick succession but since then it's either been 6 cars in use or an...

TPE services allocated for Double units

From memory it was 6 on Monday 24th but 3 on Tuesday 25th. 3/3 so far this week, though!

TPE services allocated for Double units

No. This thread's most-mentioned service, the 0626 Cleethorpes (0808 Sheffield) towards Manchester was 3-car.

TPE services allocated for Double units

Which reminds me. When the South Transpennine trains do manage to be 6 car, how are they managing at the Airport? Before the December timetable change there was talk that it could only be managed - from the point of view of platform occupancy at the Airport - by dropping a unit off at...

TPE services allocated for Double units

Tuesday was 3 car as well.

TPE services allocated for Double units

Conductor on board the 0808 was reporting that a train at broken down at Cleethorpes last night and that this was the reason for the short forming.

TPE services allocated for Double units

0808 from Sheffield (0626 from Cleethorpes) was 6 coaches today... but was then half an hour late mostly due to having to wait at Sheffield for a member of staff - I'm guessing a second guard - who had been delayed coming from Manchester. 1818 from Manchester Piccadilly (1753 from Manchester...

TPE services allocated for Double units

When would you need to leave to be sure of getting there on time by car, though? I wouldn't have thought it was much later than 7:14.

TPE services allocated for Double units

The 0808 from Sheffield was indeed 6-car.

TPE services allocated for Double units

I get the 0808 from Sheffield Monday-Thursday and will post next time I get it and it's 6 car. It hasn't been since that first day.

TPE services allocated for Double units

Yep. I get it Mon-Thur and the only day it's been 6 car was that first Monday. Pretty certain even the 0505 Cleethorpes to Airport - which has been booked as 6 car since I started this commute a year ago - was 3 car as the rest of its diagram is 3 car on JourneyCheck.

TPE services allocated for Double units

JourneyCheck also reporting that the 1553 Manchester Airport - Cleethorpes and the 1753 Manchester Airport - Cleethorpes will be 3 coaches instead of 6, despite the fact that AFAIK neither of them has ever been 6 coaches.

    Network Rail managed stations

Of those 20 Guildford is the smallest in terms of passenger numbers, followed by Bristol Temple Meads and then Reading. Though Ebbsfleet International and Stratford International are much smaller.

TPE services allocated for Double units

Well that's what I thought too but the announcements at Sheffield have definitely been saying the opposite since May. Also, the front set needs to be the one with seat reservations due to short platforms at several stations along the route, so if the front train is the one that drops off anyone...

TPE services allocated for Double units

So this one - the 0808 departure from Sheffield - was indeed a double 185. However, there was confusion about what would happen at Manchester Piccadilly. (AIUI the train has to split at Piccadilly as there isn't the platform space at Manchester Airport for a full 6 car set at that point). The...

Liverpool Norwich service to be split at Nottingham

Yes. Sheffield to Grantham is 1h 6m changing at Doncaster and 1h30m direct via Nottingham, with similar numbers to places further east. I don't know where that time goes but it means I barely use the route despite regularly doing Sheffield - East Anglia. (And on the topic of price, my general...

Trivia: Quantity of TOCs between two stations

Another with 4 is Selby-Brough-Hull, which is served by Hull Trains, TPE, Northern and occasional LNER services.

passenger confusion over trains going to similar sounding destinations

I know someone who was trying to get to Haddenham & Thame Parkway, asked a member of staff at Birmingham New Street for help, but was misheard and was directed onto a train for Tame Bridge Parkway! (In addition to being a fairly easy mishearing - Thame and Tame being pronounced essentially the...
