Driver opportunities with no requirement on distance

I lived outside of the 45 minutes when I applied to SWR, and was offered the role on the basis that I moved. What I will say though is, even though I did move, plenty of other drivers live much further than 45 minutes away, some up to 2 hours!

    Driver training Prep

The rule book can be ambiguous even if you do know what you’re on about , best to leave it all alone and take it all on as it comes, I went through the same, and worked out for me and a couple others on my course. Best of luck in your training!

    Training costs

SWR don’t do that, we had a driver who qualified and within 12 weeks went over to overground ,,, before the new pay deal came in May I add!

How many chances do you get, when applying for a Trainee Train Driver role?

I would double confirm this, because no TOC has their own psychometric testing, it’s a nationalised thing, everyone does the same tests

Living outside the 60 Minute required area.

I had to relocate prior to starting, and was required to provide proof of address. However once you’re qualified, it seems as if you can live where you like, but it’s up to you to manage your fatigue etc, Is it worth losing your job over!

    Becoming a trainee train driver

Mate I wouldn’t over complicate it! If you seem over rehearsed, they’ll suspect you are lying, and will try throw you off, the last thing you want is to be thrown a curveball that messes you up for the rest of it! The best advice I was told was trust in your experiences, you know what you did...

    Becoming a trainee train driver

Even when you have an idea what you are on about the rule book can be very open to interpretation, I would advise heavily against trying to learn anything before a rules course!

    Becoming a trainee train driver

Above basically hit the nail on the head, as with any sort of aptitude test, you’ve either got it or you haven’t. The only preparation I could think of that may help is any sort of Brain training apps, you’ll be able to see what level you’re at with various things such as multi tasking, memory...

Trainee Train Drivers - Waterloo (14.01.20)

I’d sit comfy if you are waiting for Waterloo mate, there’s such a large backlog of Trainees at the moment that haven’t had DI’s since March, I imagine it’s the same across the company. The intakes for courses are smaller aswell to allow for government guidelines.

DB Cargo Trainee Train Driver -Talent Pool - West London

Just saying that if you can’t be arsed to read the advert to see where the job is potentially based, there’s absolutely no chance that you’d get the job

    Southeastern DMI

Well done on passing, just out of interest, when did you apply for SE?

    Orpington SE depot

Although it is still an expense, You can get a residential season ticket which costs me around £90 a month, travelling down to Basingstoke for Training would be a considerably long day though granted, luckily enough at the time I only lived 5 minutes walking from Waterloo!

    Orpington SE depot

I would consider moving from my TOC to SE simply for pure convenience, for example, sometimes on an early turn, I cannot get parked at my depot or a nearby depot, which is hugely frustrating to then have to pay extortionate prices. Rostering is purely a game that some people know how to play...

    Orpington DMI advice

DMI is a lot more relaxed than what you are expecting. I went to mine expecting to be grilled, but it really wasn’t like that, building a good rapport in the initial stages of the interview is so important and will really have an effect on how you will be questioned and also maybe what questions...

SW Rail Guard Training - Covid

Ah nice, if you are offered a start date for guard before an MMI, how will that affect future Driver applications, as I assume that’s the goal?

SW Rail Guard Training - Covid

Interested to know how you have been successful in one role application and still have a pending MMI for trainee Driver, I’ve know people to apply for 2 different roles with SWR and one application had to be closed before even psychometric testing could take place. I can’t imagine they’d be too...

    Driver Finals

Surely you got backdated some though? Even the trainees did alright out of it!

    Driver Finals

Thanks! To be honest, I just tried to keep as cool and calm as I could, dealt with it as it comes, had a little word with myself before the final scenario because inside my head was a bit on fire, but ultimately it was no worse than I expected it to be!

    Driver Finals
