    SWR Relocation Rules

Given the previous comment I'm not sure if this is helpful/conflicting info but I've been a Bournemouth driver since 2020. I lived near Uxbridge when I applied. In my DMI they said I just needed to provide a proof of address within 45mins of Bournemouth before the first day of my driver training...

SWR - Depot Driver Wimbledon (06/02/23)

In my experience SWR accept relocations. I lived in Rickmansworth and moved to Bournemouth once I'd got my trainee driver job, they just wanted a proof of address before my start date. That was in 2019.

Crosscountry - Apprentice Train Drivers (08/12/22)

At Bournemouth I think full wack is defo upper 60k maybe even low 70's by now. Was 65k before the pandemic at least. Not sure how long to get there for a new driver though.

    Driver Manager salary Avanti

Just out of interest, do you know if driver manager salary is normally about 10K above driver salary for most TOCs. Something I heard and wondered if it's true?

Trainee Train Driver - Contract length

I was told at DMI SWR is 4 years.

What is the best advice for a new, trainee driver?

I'd defo second don't read ahead. Just focus on what you are learning at the time and the tests module by module.

Changing career to rolling stock technician

I always thought that fitter was shorthand for technician, but technician is the official title. Might be wrong. There might be small differences in T&C's or something but they'd do the same or very similar jobs.

    SWR Driver Talent Pools

http://railnews.mobi/news/2021/04/08-more-trains-next-week-and.html Next week passenger numbers might increase by 126% in the south west. Hopefully that starts the ball rolling at least.

‘Driver’ isn’t the only job on the railway

It seems like people are more likely to go from other roles to driver than from driver to other roles. OF COURSE it's not the only good job on the railway, but there has to be something in that. Maybe it's because when you become a driver you realise that all the 'too good to be true' things...

Entry to working on the rails as a technician

According to my mate who works there Bombardier/Alston used to recruit level 2 maintenance assistants on 38k but recently stopped. Not sure about others or Network rail though, it's worth applying, it's an industry for life. If the college is good they'll post industry insights and jobs up for...

Trainee Driver - Starting a YouTube Channel

Sounds like a good idea and would spark the interest of a lot of people. Just really understand your social media policy, as others have said. Maybe ask a senior trainer or manager what they think. If you don't breach that, there's no problem and, in my opinion it would be a fun and very useful...

Will ASLEF fight to keep stay at home spare after Coronavirus?

It seems like people aren't opposed to it staying on the whole (which I suppose is to be expected), but realistically speaking if it were to stay it would probably take a different form and would need to be voted in etc which may be a tall order.

Will ASLEF fight to keep stay at home spare after Coronavirus?

I just thought it might be that the company says you can't have a pay rise which is fair enough due to the economy etc and ASLEF might say we accept that if we keep stay at home spare? Maybe wishful thinking on me and our reps part then, as it is obviously a problematic concept. I've just...

Will ASLEF fight to keep stay at home spare after Coronavirus? I've heard on the grape vine that they will but what do people think?
