How could new ECML stations (such as Reston) be served? Should the Reston project be abandoned? Should other stations be built?

I think it’s a bit disingenuous to say that Reston won’t be a useful station, or East Linton for that matter. Connectivity is the backbone of rural economies and a railway station can transform a region’s fortunes, enabling jobseekers to find work in places they previously couldn’t access. Their...

How long might it take to reopen the line near Stonehaven?

Worth noting that 1E11 and 1E15 will not run on Tuesday 3rd November due to lack of rolling stock in Aberdeen. The first LNER southbound will be 1E25, formed off 1W02.

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

Speaking of... anybody know of any plans to abandon the god-awful “Lothiancity” branding on the XLBs? To most people, it is just confusing because the majority of city services operate under the standard “Lothian” brand anyway and the XLBs are just any other bus. As a bit of a branding geek...

How long might it take to reopen the line near Stonehaven?

LNER run three buses in place of their Aberdeen services. They have been running since the derailment happened but have only recently been advertised (to avoid overcrowding, customers were previously only told by announcement on the connecting service from KGX and if they asked station staff)...

    RailUK First Class Lounge Guide

There is a much larger area behind where the camera is located in the second image so it shouldn’t be too cramped. This looks like the most ‘homely’ of all the new-style LNER lounges. I imagine there will be more artwork etc. in real life as well.

Flood Damage Near Polmont - 12/08/2020

28th September is the aim AFAIK. The work to restore the line is not as difficult as some have dramatised it to be. Carmont, however, is looking like late November/December.

    Azuma seating plans / windows

They are wider - they can fit 1 extra case on each row versus the original stacks. The design is standard for 80x units, the width is the only customisable part AFAIK. The glass panels have, as mentioned, the added benefit of protecting the bulkhead from damage.

    Azuma seating plans / windows

Some sets have returned to Hitachi over the past few weeks to have seats removed and luggage stacks installed. Pictured is a new stack in Coach L on a 9-car 800. Only 9-car 800s and 801s are getting the new stacks for now as these operate Anglo-Scottish services where the most luggage issues...

Possible plans for Edinburgh Waverley station?

You have to remember that any new proposed tram interchange at Waverley doesn’t just have the airport in mind — in fact it is probably a less important factor going forward, given Covid’s impact on the aviation industry. Waverley is the nearest major station for Leith and RIE/Southside, both of...

    Scottish Electrification updates & discussion

I think that investing in aviation infrastructure of any kind will be politically impossible, particularly given the reason for the recent resurgence in this thread – decarbonisation. EARL is dead. The best anyone can hope for is better ticketing integration with Edinburgh Trams and the Almond...

    Scottish Electrification updates & discussion

Absolutely this. There is a lot of untapped potential on the scenic routes. Proper new-build stock with a focus on comfort as opposed to speed and capacity. First class is a must imo. Luggage and bike carriages, as well as a sleeper-style club car would be great. Luckily, with the rest of the...

    ScotRail Station Announcer Replacement.

Possible plans for Edinburgh Waverley station?

Would it not be worth pedestrianising the South Ramp now? The current footpath is wholly inadequate and only the North Ramp is used for access anyway. They could at least temporarily open it up before pursuing the more ambitious mezzanine-level plans.

    Edinburgh but not Waverley

The issue I have is that there is no consistency at all with it, complete disjointed thinking... Haymarket is almost always referred to as just 'Haymarket' but SR's 385s announce it as 'Edinburgh Haymarket' whilst only showing 'Haymarket' on the screen itself. Edinburgh Waverley is almost...

    Scotrail's Suburban EMU's - Capacity Increase

If SR could get a hold of the Class 707s that are coming/have come off lease and stick pantographs on them, they would be a good replacement for 334s on Airdrie/Bathgate routes which could allow them to be cascaded to strengthen other suburban lines.
