    Barriers detect time on tickets

For local tvd at gate, are you sure it wasn't for e-ticket first, with basic CCST 'support'? Last I heard it was too slow to process the tickets using image recognition on gate (local implementation) whilst also being able to meet passenger flow requirments.

LNER to pilot removal of Off-Peak tickets

Suzanne Donnelly, Passenger Revenue Director in the GBR Transition Team, on secondment from LNER, thought the name rang a bell  My experience is she's very keen (in my opinion from past dealings, too keen) on yield management... On the upside, there might be opportunities for retail to...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

When we looked at adding some form of european rail support to our journey planning system our conclusion was it makes sense in most cases for the customer to buy an interrail pass with reservations. So didn't proceed. It might still come in a few years though...

    What foods do you crave?

Carrots. A nice carrot that's slightly on the sweeter end.

    Seat bookings for disability reasons

You should be able to specify if you book passenger assistance what your exact needs are if booking through the app. You can also book over the phone and get them to setup a mod detailed profile that's generally passed on to the staff on the ground. You have to explicitly state your needs...

    Poor loading on GTR Smartcard

From my understanding that ticket has to be loaded onto the smartcard for it to be used as part of calculation (at least it did when I did some playing a while back).

    Operators' per-km finances

Per passenger/km. Longer trains and higher average loadings over all their routes. The same can be seen with the London commuter operators where they operate 8-10 carriages on most routes. Distance and speed might also help due to needing less staff to service 1km vs a stopper.

DFT scraps plans for national ticket retailer

Interfaces from hotel groups, pre-existing interfaces used by travel agents, direct listings (driven in part due to their dominant position) and a lot of manual data (user reports and in some locations their own data collection). They do, do some scraping but not all that much. And it often...

DFT scraps plans for national ticket retailer

Banning 3rd parties might not have been on the agenda however, there was/is real consternation amongst retailers over how much more retail control would be centralised ie; would they enforce all retailers to use an interface provided by the national retailer and essentially reduces independent...

    Passenger Assists data highest ever

Oh yeah, as I said: "even though it often doesn't materialise". At the moment the Passenger Asssit app is a way for the industry to get data on the extent of the accessibility problem by building a dataset on things such as % requests that fail and common points of failure. This data is then...

    Passenger Assists data highest ever

It is a lot easier to book assistance now (even though it often doesn't materialise) and there's been a big industry wide push over the last 18 months around pre-booked official assistance after a series of high profile incidents involving wheelchair users frequently missing their stops (with...

    EMR Class 170 updates

Very much my thoughts too. Whilst a bit tatty what we have now on the EMR regional is by far an improvement on what came before. I've been on many a crush loaded train between Lincoln and Newark as a commuter. The 170's feel like luxury! At least they're generally quite quiet, longer, don't...

Stopping trains from departing with station staff assisting passengers onboard

The technology is great when it works. The main issue I've found with the current assist app is quite often some guards don't check or for some reason it doesn't come through to the train even though the assist was accepted. So unfortunately in person handover between station and on-board staff...

Which train type will you miss the least when they are all withdrawn?

The lighting mainly followed by the overhead luggage racks not being available for every seat (generally the one I end up in). I also have an irrational dislike for the door area dividers and the location of the grab poles.

Which train type will you miss the least when they are all withdrawn?

150's hands down. They're loud, vibrate too much, look awful and all the internal layouts I've seen are pretty bad. I think they should have gone before the Pacers, at least they had some character.

    Speed through gatelines

From my recent experience (anecdotal I know!), around my neck of the woods people with paper CCST tickets seem to be the slowest at the gateline! They seem to be rejected more often, people try and tap them on the smartcard reader (I've had to correct numerous people over the last week trying to...

Tulse Hill to London Kings Cross 23 July

We're working on some TfL & bus related stuff so it isn't completely out of the question :)

    Can Everyone use Split Tickets?

    1. Any retailer can offer splits (toc or not) however the additional costs of doing so aren't covered by standard retail commission so they often don't opt for it even when using a supplier that supports split calculation. On top of this the DFT/Treasury will not fund train operators to contract...

    Can Everyone use Split Tickets?

This doesn't factor in the time it would take for the user to calculate their own splits, for instance one I've manually calculated myself would have an opportunity cost of around £36 in foregone labour, so the calculation would be more akin to checking if the commission<time*rate. As stated in...

    Can Everyone use Split Tickets?

The service is already available to all operators/retailers by us (FastJP) and other TIS suppliers such as Trainline for a nominal service fee. Splits are a more expensive service due to higher overheads in research, maintenance and operation. So operators and vendors often choose to retail...
