    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Actually, the intention with the full Crossrail is to connect to the west & city line and so allow CVL services the option to route to the bay via Central - more network capacity and redundancy.

Sorry been out of the country for a few days. More than happy for you to engage in this on-ongoing debate - I am unchanged in my views and analysis but will desist from further contributions. Clever Boy!

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

This thread includes the sensible, realistic and financially grounded all the way to the "flat earth conspiracy theorist" type content...also quite a lot of disinformation and genuine misunderstanding. I think it better to wait for the current procurement to produce a winning bidder and...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

A lot of very capable and experienced people have explored all these questions in a great deal of detail over a number of years... I suspect each of the bidders will have spend >£ms reach over the last 2 years and WG themselves will and have invested significantly in developing these proposals...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Fyi....given major civils required on valleys for HR 25Kv electrification (and numerous victorian bridge issues) the costs (and disruption), I suggest, have become (as per GWML) become prohibitive and have prob blown the business case out of the water. LR 750V DC electrification is much less...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Del1977 - you seem to be one of the few people in this cave with a torch...! Most are missing the bigger long term picture enabled by LR and are coming to a short term view based on mainly incorrect assumptions...... like I said (and I know some don't like it) lets wait and see.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Something else to consider.... Even post CASR the max realistic number of HR paths through QS to Central is prob about 16tph .... In LR you could prob get (I guess) quite a few more ~say 23/24 tph through there. As in Manchester with the 2nd City Crossing if you need more network capacity...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Really...a Manchester tram can hold over ~200 people (about 80 seated), doubled up that makes ~400.....*12 is more like ~5000 capacity (~2000 seated). That seems sensible and affordable and in vehicles that are designed to accommodate standing (unlike current fleet).... and I am sure LR can...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Ok maybe I was being a little flippant...there has been a huge amount of work undertaken over the last five years to assess all options, modes and variants thereof (so I suspect most if not all of the questions and issues raised in this forum have been considered) and a procurement process...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

WG/TfW have done an excellent job in managing a very complex procurement - and between them and the bidders have all the necessary expertise and experience to define & deliver better and more affordable services to passengers. Lets wait and see....

    Wales & Borders Franchise Consultation

The whole point of the output based procurement and its competitive dialogue is to enable TfW to work with bidders and develop and deliver the most effective solution within the capital/revenue envelope regardless of the mode. This does mean innovation and transformation... and likely a very...

Solving the Valley lines bottleneck at Cardiff Central?

When you consider that CASR will prob only deliver 14/15tph through Queen St Vs a LR conversion which could deliver 24-28 tph, then converting as much of the network north of QS to LR is really a no brainer. Higher frequency services mitigate interchange penalties.....
  19. S

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

    The LR idea ....
  20. S

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Frequency is function of safety and signalling. HR standards and new CASR signalling will enable 16tph to pass through QS in each direction. LR which operates on "Line of Sight" and as LRVs can be stopped much more quickly, could probably operate at ~24tph through QS - all on the same track...
