Ah! Understood - thanks again. That's really helpful.

XC strike Sat 13th April OFF

That is very helpful - thank you so much for making the effort - it really jelps me slot all of these things into place. If I can be greedy, could you elaborate a little on what a "Link" is?

XC strike Sat 13th April OFF

Thanks for this. it answered a few questions that I've be storing up whilst reading this thread. FWIW I'm an average passenger who found this site when wondering what on earth was going on in the railways 1713032529 With respect, I'm quite numerate and have decades of experience in operational...

    ASLEF strikes 5th-8th April weekend

I'm sorry, I'm trying to keep up with the terminology as I'm genuinely interested but I didn't quite understand that. By "They can only be used when all normal booking out procedures for the existing establishment of drivers have been exhausted", does that mean that they can only be used when...

    ASLEF strikes 5th-8th April weekend

As I understood some of the previous threads - it's possible that a TOC has newly qualified drivers who are not allowed to driver until an existing driver leaves so that they don't take away potential overtime from other drivers. So they are paid but sit around as emergency backup. If I have...

    ASLEF strikes 5th-8th April weekend

I wonder who would cave first in this very unlikely scenario. I'd guess that it would force MSL legislation into use on commuter lines - even if the TOCs don't want to use it... Surely its much more likely we'll keep the constant drip of action until November and then a new round of negotiation...

GTR employee bids to visit all 2,580 GB railway stations in 6 weeks

Thanks. I see the difference in the challenge if it has to be a different service - still, either way, its one heck of an endevour - I admire all of your persistence.

GTR employee bids to visit all 2,580 GB railway stations in 6 weeks

Could you get back on the same train to the next stop or did you have to board a different one at each station?

Do we have more weather related outages now than we used to?

Wasn't that pretty much the plan for HS2?

2024 election and party Railway policies

I understand that the Russian railways run very closely to timetable and customer satisfaction scores are very high. The European part of Russia is considerably bigger than the UK and its biggest city is more populous than London. They don't seem to have a problem with state control of industries.

2024 election and party Railway policies

I would very much hope that they are done differently and I look forward to the detail. I asked out of curiosity, not as sign of a possible direction of travel. Any change (or lack of change) is unlikely to make everyone happy... I did note that the proposals from the current government...

Was pay harmonised across BR? I think I read that it wasn't?

Sun front page- iPads for Train Drivers

As a vapourware technology consultant with extensive experience of powerpoint and software I've seen company cars going through phases. When I first started they were just moving from being provided only to sales staff to a perk provided as a status symbol (think early 20's graduate with their...

Sun front page- iPads for Train Drivers

If you rely on consumer grade updates then there are risks although it works perfectly acceptably for a huge number of companies and is actually very robust - especially on IoS devices. Android is slightly less controlled but still generally very good and very highly used. If you tie the devices...

Sun front page- iPads for Train Drivers

I'd agree that that's fairly important. This thread however was about IPads being used to replace paper based book. Not as an interactive device providing real time information and my comments are based on that premise. 1706807166 If teleportation is an option then presumably the business case...

Sun front page- iPads for Train Drivers

Many corporates use VPNs as a matter of course to eliminate security risks (reduce them not eliminate if I'm honest). Private or free ones posing a risk? Possibly...

Sun front page- iPads for Train Drivers

It is exactly how it works in many corporate environments where critical applications run on ipads. Ios updates are controlled and app and data updates are forced once testing has completed. If the end-user is impacted - which is not the case with the majority of updates, then an appropriate...

Sun front page- iPads for Train Drivers

I had assumed that it was mainly for the pictures 1706802213 I have a slight concern about rolling this into a payrise as it's then forever. Is it is a one off incovenience then a one of bonus is sure more appropriate. If it is included in base salary then it should mean that all future...
