First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

E200MMC’s 67160 and 67166 are apparently due to move from Essex to Bath at some point soon

    C2C class 720 updates

Just had a pleasant surprise, got the 14:08 from Basildon (2B37), was expecting an 8 car 357 but 720611 turned up instead! My first ride on a C2C 720, and it’s still got that new train smell!

Trivia: Bus routes that cannot use double decker vehicles

First Essex’s service 28 from Southend to Basildon is limited to single decks due to Pitsea railway bridge. Arriva’s services 7/8 used to use double deckers, but modern vehicles are too high to pass under Hockley and Hawkwell railway bridges. I’m sure there are others locally but can’t think...

    C2C class 720 updates

I haven’t looked today, but they were definitely out on Friday, and stopping at Barking too so the problem there must have been fixed. Whether a new issue has arisen over the weekend though I don’t know.

    Class 379s to C2C?

I don’t think so. They’re showing their age a bit in places, but with a little sprucing up I reckon the 357s could easily do at least another 10 years from now.

    First Essex

It’s been a while since the last repaint into Essex Bus green, and the Shuttles repaints seem to have slowed right down too. I wonder if that means the new nationwide livery rumour mentioned in other threads does have legs? I have no inside info, just speculating.

    First Essex

To and from Lakeside I believe

    East-facing bay at Pitsea station

No, it isn’t electrified. There is a connection to the running lines a little way to the East, however I’m afraid I can’t help with your questions regarding its use. I’m as curious to find out though.

Trivia: Local bus services that use bypasses

First Essex’s service X71 (Chelmsford to Colchester) uses the A12 to bypass Boreham and Kelvedon villages, both of which are served instead by the slower 371

TRIVIA: Places served by the most depots of one operator

And for a couple of months towards the end of last year, was also served by Hadleigh depot, on route 3.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Does testing of the 701s take place on weekends? Because I saw one at Waterloo at about 18:00 today, however I was too far away to see the number. As a sidenote, the 455 I was on at the time (455707 I think), has a really old map above one of the doors. It still thinks you can take the Eurostar...

    Jubilee-liveried buses

Can’t link to a picture right now, however First Essex have put one of their recent arrivals from Glasgow, namely 33983 SN65 OFY, into a Jubilee themed livery

    East Anglia Bus Scene

Colchester have received some E200s from Guildford, these are intended to replace the Darts. The Versas have moved to Southend to replace some older DAFs and Volvos there.

    Trivia: Most varied formation

Pretty sure I’ve seen a video of a London Midland 150,153,170 and possibly a 172 all coupled together passing through Birmingham New Street at some point

Trivia: Major towns and cities with gaps in single-digit route numbers

That’s all true, and in Southend Arriva used to have a 5 (withdrawn in 2016) and First used to have a 2 (now numbered 28) and a 3 (withdrawn long ago) meaning at one point the whole single digit range was used in the area. There is also no longer a 4, however the 4A remains as a Sunday only service.

Which classes may be nearing their end?

SWR’s 455s and 456s will be gone for good when the 701 issues get sorted and they finally enter service

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

I notice that 33412/5 have been added to the First Essex roster on Bustimes over the last couple of days. Is this accurate? If so, are any more likely to come? We do have a few 2001/2 Tridents remaining here, are the E400s their replacements?

    Poppywatch 2021

An Arriva Southend E400 (6458 SN58 ENX) has been in a poppy livery permanently for a couple of years now
