Looking for information on Mercedes 0303 Buses from the 70s.

To be fair the type were pretty rare here (compared to the numerous Bedford/AEC's/Fords/Leylands etc), Have you tried any of the German bus forums which may have a much higher proportion of potential owners/enthusiasts who maybe able to help?

    DRS to sell heritage locomotives

Thanks, wasn't aware of that, the pics I saw of 407 and 424 showed them virtually completely reskinned such was the level of work going on.

    DRS to sell heritage locomotives

I thought there were only 2 RVEL rebuild locos (37407 and 37424), what were the other 2 please?

    Class 503 disposal

Playing Devil's advocate- Would it have made a difference? Say there was a press release saying "We need £10,000(example) in the next 3 months or it goes for scrap" no doubt there would be a flurry of people online saying "nooooo! We can't let this happen!", a few donations from people who...

    Build Quality of New Models

I think taking a step back, we need to ask the question why would a manufacturer downturn the quality of their product. The reality is many fold but primarily it comes down to cost; A well built bus will be heavier (eg due to the use of thicker materials, fixings etc), using more fuel and more...

Door conversion from one to two doors

Bristol converted some R.E's to dual door buses for city use in the 1970s, and also similarly converted some ex Southern Vectis batch of "XDL79-L" reg Leyland National to dual door: When new...

"Out of form" (i.e. non-ADL) Stagecoach orders

Volvo B5 is discontinued, hence why Lothian bought a load a couple of years back. Wrightbus still has a diesel Streetdeck listed on website

"Out of form" (i.e. non-ADL) Stagecoach orders

I think it briefly appeared on the ADL website for a day and then disappeared. Since Brian Souter offloaded his share of ADL and Stagecoach it seems there has been more freedom for operating companies to go off piste from pure ADL offerings.

    Bus Manufacturer News & Discussion

To be honest I was not surprised to read the article, it felt like this had been coming for a while. A small numbers of a complex product to build in an increasingly competitive market at a time of a shift from diesel to electric was always going to be a tough sell in the board room.

Why don't buses carry makers badges?

Stagecoach for a while insisted on vehicles being delivered without manufactures badges.

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Yep, I remember reading an article in Buses magazine where James Freeman was interviewed and said basically they needed more development, cost about £300k each and saw Gas as a better solution at the time, hence the boat load of Scania gas buses then ordered.

Trivia: Rare and unusual bus and coach types

Have read the same in magazines at the time re damage at the docks. Was later damaged again and rebuilt without the offisde door and a Plaxton lower panel... Only it's mother could love it looks wise..

Vintage buses destroyed by fire 08/12/2023

I guess they won't know until they dismantle it. In the 1950s there was still an element of "over engineering" so it is likely the mechanical components would have survived better than if it were a Dennis Dart. For example in the video it can be seen the steering still works. It seems the one...

Vintage buses destroyed by fire 08/12/2023

It depends how determined and how much money the guys have and what there is left to save. I guess if the main chassis, axles, engines and gearbox can be saved then they can build what is effectively a new bus around it, assuming they have access to plans or a similar bus (albeit was it not a...

    ZEBRA 2 Discussion

Assuming the reference to "would be made outside the Chinese Joint venture' then presume the ADL buses would be integral E400ev and might offer a clue as to where the gap between ADL stating they have orders for around 150 E400ev vs 74 which have been announced by operators (55 Stagecoach...
