Please help with finding a video of narrow gauge steam railways

@sprinterguy thanks for the link. I've had a look at these. Its along those lines, but I think it was more recent. I have to say the narrator in the video I'm looking for was similar in style and tone to the one in you link "Robert Symes" but the video was without a woman as well. I'm going to...

Please help with finding a video of narrow gauge steam railways

If this is in the wrong please report/move - apologies in advance. I am looking for a VHS of narrow gauge steam. It was a compilation of railways around England, Wales and the Isle of Mann. It included the Groudle Glen, Vale of Rheidol, Romney Hythe & Dymchurch , Launceston, Bala Lake...

Grand Union Trains Plans to run from London to Cardiff - Now rejected by ORR

Perhaps if they'd differentiated more like First East Coast with a standard only and low average fare it would have been approved as offering a vastly different product.

RMT on the possible 2 year pay freeze

It looks from the outside to similar as to what has happened in the NHS with Sodexo etc ... presumably industrial action is less effective when your employer isn't the train operating company?

Avanti West Coast Class 221 to CrossCountry

If you take the 3 centre coaches at 68 68 and 68 (xc configuration not all tables) seats from Avanti you get an average 68 seats per coach. But if you include the end coaches (assuming standard at the same configuration on both ends academically) you get an average 57.6 seats per coach but you...

Avanti West Coast Class 221 to CrossCountry

At that point the benefit on the face of it would be increasing frequency as opposed to lengthening with doubled up sets. That way you could recast the timetable to make some routes even more frequent but with the increase in staff costs to go with it?

Avanti West Coast Class 221 to CrossCountry

That sort of was my original question. Could the value for money be significantly greater by doing away with the end coaches on the basis of a lower seat count and the need for additional staff vs running longer fixed formations throughout the network. One other benefit in terms of...

Avanti West Coast Class 221 to CrossCountry

If they had to to change the Avanti carriages or make them work with XC software - surely that will apply either way, if working coupled up or by insertion in to a longer single train. I agree it adds flexibility but also adds to staffing/fuel costs - which may be more of a loss than a gain?

Avanti West Coast Class 221 to CrossCountry

I certainly wasn't; thinking about a recast of the timetable. But simply thinking that taking the 20 221 centre coaches = 60 centre coaches and inserting them in to the 24 super voyagers. And without any splitting / joining might make for a stronger business case with the Dft than doubling up...

Avanti West Coast Class 221 to CrossCountry

Could it not be more economical to lengthen some of the 221s to 7/8 coach by inserting extra coaches from Avanti's 221 and doing away with the shorter end coaches. Presume this could mean that staff costs would not increase and offer better value per seat than lengthening including end coaches...

Serco-Abellio NT "Case of the Missing Logo"

It may just be me but the colours and font looks very similar to GNER on the Flickr image?

    East Coast Trains Ltd

I don't think the Dft could object as its not a brand they have trademarked like LNER - I believe that it would be the same as Virgin, in as much as if they did use it, it would be up to First and Trenitalia. I would expect that Trenitalia might object but that would depend on whether they only...

    East Coast Trains Ltd

I don't see them being fully merged. I would still imagine the Hull Trains sets to have the individual livery and be a 'Hull Trains Service' but having watched First slowly erode the Hull Trains brand from the green and gold into blue and pink I wouldn't see it beyond First to erode the brand...

    East Coast Trains Ltd

One could certainly see a First East Coast website brand which also sold Hull Trains Tickets in a dedicated way (e.g. highlighting First services when booking etc for both Hull and Edinburgh) and cold even as far reducing the Hull Trains Brand back to a just an onboard offer. As ECTL will not...

    Interview advice

Hi sharrp There were 3 on the panel at my interview - 1 from HR and 2 from the site. All very friendly, one thing to be mindful of is that they asked me at the end if I had any questions for them. I would think of something in advance to ask them, try to turn in into an opportunity to further...

    Interview advice

Not sure how helpful this advice is but I used the STAR method to answer each question in an interview I went for. So when asked a question answer in 4 parts. 1. Situation 2. Task 3. Action 4. Result I was offered a job at Network Rail as track inspection operative (sadly turned down after...
