Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

Alstom sold off the IP for the Coradia Polyvalent but not the Coradia brand, which is alive and kicking. https://www.alstom.com/solutions/rolling-stock/coradia-regional-trains-accessible-solutions-move-regions CAF are allowed to use the name "Coradia Polyvalent", perhaps because the trains are...

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

I don't know about Bangkok, but Alstom UK's Twitter account celebrated the Santiago de los Caballeros trains with some dubious poetry on Valentine's Day.

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

That probably just means that R&D will stay in Derby instead of moving to Widnes. Whatever they come up with for the UK, whether it's an improved Aventra or a completely new design, will be branded as Adessia.

    HSTs to Nigeria

IIRC that line was closed to make way for the new Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge line, with which the Red Line shares tracks. Here's a diagram from Wikipedia showing the Blue Line, the Red Line and the Lagos prtion of the Lagos-Ibadan line. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2lineslagos3.jpg

    HSTs to Nigeria

The Blue Line opened in September 2023 and switched to electric power in October. Construction of the Red Line began in 2020 with the goal of opening in 2022, which probably explans why they resorted to buying secondhand trains or, in the case of the Talgos, unwanted new trains that were...

    HSTs to Nigeria

Here's a video with a walk-through of a Talgo train. Most of the seats are longitudinal but there are a few transverse seats here and there. The Red Line is not operating yet, although the opening ceremony was held on February 29th...

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

IIRC the UK was the only country to require existing stock to be modified to comply with TSI PRM.

Volvo buses are made by AB Volvo. Volvo Cars is a separate company which was spun off in 1999.

Door conversion from one to two doors

This photo shows that it still had an open platform on the left. Does that count as a door? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Routemaster_in_Vancouver.jpg

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

I imagine that this was the reason behind the Arterio branding. The door position marks would be labelled Arterio to show that they only applied to the 701s.

Countries where rail traffic drives on a different side to road traffic

Korea had left hand traffic on the roads during the Japanese colonial era (1910-1945). After the surrender of Japan at the end of the Second World War, the US army occupying the south and the Soviet army occupying the north imposed right hand traffic. Seoul Subway Line 1 has left hand traffic...

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

Hitachi wouldn't do that. They would try adding a tri-mode powertrain to their existing UK platforms.

    Buses in Cyprus

There are open-top double-deckers imported from the UK, including some Routemasters. The "Unregistered in Cyprus" album on Cyprus Buses & Coaches site includes used imports from the UK and Ireland. Northern Cyprus is or was home to plenty of old British coaches like this one.

    HSTs to Nigeria

It's a short line for Talgos too, but they bought two from Wisconsin because they were available immediately. https://urbanmilwaukee.com/2022/01/18/talgos-wisconsin-trains-find-home-in-nigeria/ Fortuitously the Talgos were painted white with a red stripe, so no repainting was needed for the...
