    doncaster to weymouth day trip

Weymouth station is very near the seafront and beach; Bournemouth station isn’t.

How to improve and increase capacity of the West Coastway line, including merging merging Sholing & Woolston stations?

I think this is stretching things - Southampton Central is pretty central. It’s next to the main shopping centre (West Quay), the Civic Centre, the cultural centre (Mayflower), the historic walls and the coach station. Not far from the Waterfront hotels and events (eg Boat Show) and (to declare...

    IoW Travel

The Coaster is a good trip, but it only goes to Alum Bay (Needles Pleasure Park). The only bus that takes you on the exciting ride out to the Needles Battery and Coastguard Station is the Breezer.

Interesting journeys in Belgium and the Netherlands

This unremarkable bit of country has an interesting history. From 1816 to 1921 it was the territory of Neutral Moresnet, ruled jointly by Belgium and Prussia/Germany. This whole area is a fascinating one for collectors of border oddities. The High Venn railway was a strip of Belgian territory...

Delay Repay and the Isle of Wight

Indeed. It’s a relatively recent development. Pre-Covid the short connections were recognised.

Delay Repay and the Isle of Wight

For some time, journey planners have not recognised the normal sub-10 minutes or so connections between catamaran and train at Ryde and Portsmouth Harbour. The timetables on the SWR website and printed ones at the stations have now followed them - the ‘non-connecting‘ trains and cats are shown...

Interesting journeys in Belgium and the Netherlands

Without wishing to prolong this unduly, we’re not talking about ’something else’ - it’s the same language whatever you call it. And my experience from living in Belgium is that the locals call it Vlaams.

Interesting journeys in Belgium and the Netherlands

It would be more accurate to say that Dutch in Belgium is called Vlaams (Flemish). And I think you will find that in the Brussels region, which is strictly bilingual, the use of both languages in station signage and elsewhere is carefully balanced to ensure that neither language has a perceived...

Interesting journeys in Belgium and the Netherlands

If you go to the far east of Belgium, the branch to Spa is an interesting side trip. Gent St Pieters is an impressive station, though not as spectacular as Antwerp Centraal. And on the coast Knokke has a good Art Deco station, rather reminiscent of the Southern Railway.

"Tickets purchased with a Railcard are not valid on this service" (SWR)

This was always inaccurate and annoyed me every time I heard it. Presumably someone complained, and the announcement now (also from memory) says that “ Oystercards, and Freedom Passes without a suitable extension” are not valid.

    SWR & RedJet through tickets

West Cowes via Redjet. My experience is that not all outlets ever sell these through tickets (or those to/from East Cowes via Red Funnel). For instance, a quick check shows them on the National Rail website but not the Cross Country one.

Clapham Junction - Is getting from platform 1 to platform 9 in six minutes at 11pm on a Tuesday doable?

And I should perhaps have acknowledged that that was probably what you meant! In my view the Northern Line is the OP‘s friend : Tufnell Park to Waterloo, changing at Camden Town if necessary. I wouldn’t bother with the Overground or Victoria Line variations.

    Includes Hovercraft - Or Not?

Worth mentioning that there is no facility for buying Island Line tickets at Pierhead; even if there were, connections are usually so tight that there would not be time to use it. You get on the train and wait for the guard to reach you.

Clapham Junction - Is getting from platform 1 to platform 9 in six minutes at 11pm on a Tuesday doable?

Kentish Town West isn’t on the tube; Kentish Town is but is closed until later this year.

    Tyndrum (Upper and Lower)

Most notably, the West Highland Way, which has become extremely popular in recent years, passes through Tyndrum on its way from Milngavie to Fort William. There must be a lot of walkers who make a planned or unplanned stop there. If you are tired and/or wet I don’t think you would care which of...

    Tyndrum (Upper and Lower)

No one has mentioned the most interesting question, which is why the stations are named Upper Tyndrum and Tyndrum Lower, with the adjectives respectively before and after the place name.

    Includes Hovercraft - Or Not?

Not so - the severe restrictions on passenger numbers, which mean that pre-booking is essential, apply every day to the 0530 Lymington-Yarmouth and the 1100/1105 Yarmouth-Lymington crossings. I presume that what happens is the tanker carrying fuel (or whatever dangerous substance is involved)...

    Includes Hovercraft - Or Not?

I believe that Southern Portsmouth to Gatwick via Brighton and Lewes would also be valid, though perhaps an expert could confirm.
