[Trivia] Minor be stations with higher/lower usage because of non-railway changes

IBM... found itself going from a station serving a manufacturing plant employing thousands, to a station situated in a huge derelict brownfield site (affected by anti-social behaviour reportedly) awaiting redevelopment.

Trivia: Rare and unusual bus and coach types

Does the Magicbus Megadekka qualify? The tri-axle 110-seater Alexander Olympian F110 NES that Stagecoach bought for Magicbus Glasgow in those early deys. Think there was another two built with it with smaller seating capacities. McGills had something on their fleet inherited from Harte...

    Caledonian Sleeper

But burning question is did she and her husband arrive early and were they 'encouraged' to disembark early or did she stay put right up to the "vacate rooms by" time...

    McGill's Buses - Renfrewshire & Inverclyde

You can get to Largs well before 8am on a 901 or 906 from Greenock onwards Monday to Saturday... sure the first one from Glasgow/Port Glasgow doesn't arrive until 08.50 but that that is still decent I would say. I'd agree with the previous comment... if there was resources then later buses out...

    Moffat and Williamson

Can anyone tell me how they operate the 23 Forfar Town Service? Are they parking up buses in the town or is it 20-odd dead miles at the start and end of each day to get a bus from Fife up to the town? Is it operated just by one bus running virtually non-stop from 5am to 11pm?

    Memorable bus/coach journeys

Makes you feel old when you recount memorable bus journeys…. The Great Snow of December 2010… ended up on last First Glasgow X11 to leave Glasgow at lunchtime before the whole network shutdown for the day. Something like 9 hours to get from Glasgow to the M74 junction 6 (including at one point...

TRIVIA: Places that Scottish Citylink coaches no longer serve

I seem to remember being on a Citylink coach going to the SECC or Garden Festival in the 1980s... not sure if it was just a Edinburgh -> McInroys Point service that went via the SECC or something special for the Garden Festival. Kilmacolm... I found a picture of a Citylink liveried decker...

Trivia:- Which town or city centre had the most bus stations?

Was at the corner of Killermont Street and West Nile Street... where the Royal Concert Hall (stage door end) now stands. Was waste ground with a couple of portacabins really! I'd guess from the name it was Parks of Hamilton that owned it but I've a vague recollection it was Stagecoach's name...

Trivia:- Which town or city centre had the most bus stations?

Add to that Parks City Coach Terminal maybe? Where all the non-SBG operators went between 1990 and 1996 when then were then allowed into Buchanan. The original Magicbus operation also used St Enoch despite repeated attempts by Strathclyde stance controllers to stop them getting in.

    SPT Tendered Routes

I thought the bin crews were about to go on strike this week for an extended period... where does that leave the school buses then?

    McGill's Buses - Renfrewshire & Inverclyde

Looks like 547 is now that... operated since Monday by G6906 (X23 BUS) and G2853 (BF60 UUH). The latter has no vinyls, just plain red.

    Stagecoach West Scotland

Has there ever been an occasion when Stagecoach have walked away from a route and another operator has come in and run it commercially and made it viable again? If it was close to being commercially viable would Stagecoach not stick around and make the changes like frequency or smaller...

    McGill's Buses - Renfrewshire & Inverclyde

I take it that there's been a change of plan? The status of the service on VOSA has gone to Withdrawn. Presumably the open toppers go to the re-instated 547 which is also going to Largs on Sundays.

    Ember: Electric coach service

It's nothing but a personal opinion, but I can see Ember being part of McGills one day. Taken over and operating bases consolidated, etc, to operate out of Xplore Dundee and McGills Inchinnan. McGills seem to be moving into the coach market and Ember just seems a good fit. McGills CityFlyers?

Could buses carry parcels again in the UK?

As well as the massive laundry baskets of parcels being loaded into the boots of Alexander Y-Types (if they had them) I remember in Dundee and Perth we also used to have newspaper deliveries. All services leaving Dundee about 3pm Mon-Sat would have bundles of the evening paper on them. Some...

    Buses taking the wrong route

The McGills 901/906s use various diversionary routes to avoid the M8 when it is hell, which is great and saves a lot of time. Out of Braehead for Greenock they use Renfrew/Dean Park as an escape. But a couple of years back one unfortunate driver had a lapse leaving Braehead bound for Greenock...

Trivia: What bus routes still make use of a ferry?

Stagecoach / Transporter Bridge.... at one point did Stagecoach actually own the Transporter Bridge? I've got it in my head they did and they inherited it as part of a takeover of someone. Might have been at the time where Stagecoach owned lots of non-bus businesses like Porterbrook...

    Flixbus Discussion

This is on another website: https://www.oxford-chiltern-bus-page.co.uk/Pictures%20161/McGills/Night%20Drivers%20advert%20Jun%2021.jpg Is that genuine? The suggestion is McGills is about to become a Flixbus contractor?

Strangest bus journey you've ever taken

This is going back 15-odd years I reckon. The buses in question were First Glasgow rather that Stagecoach but... X8 old Pollok Centre to Glasgow... I board and there's a group of passesngers at the front and a group at the back... I settle in the middle. We hit the M77 Glasgow-bound and as...

    Memories of school bus travel

I was thinking of starting a similar thread. Now I am work from home I see the school buses here pass me every day... the usual collection of 15-year-old buses and coaches living out their later years before the scrap yard doing SPT school contracts, but for a period the young ones of...
