Ways to improve the First Glasgow Network

That's why I was comparing the Eaglesham campaigners to CQ1 campaigners. Both Clydebank to QEUH and Eaglesham to EK corridors constantly get requested by punters, but if they ever ran, noone would use them. That's why I said it would only be the driver lol. When an operator tries such services...

How late are the buses you use most?

I think EK lends itself to the Hub and Spoke model. Noone in Greenhills locale wants a slow trip to Glasgow. In my opinion 18 and 21 should terminate at EK Bus Station. 31 should run more frequently to EK Bus Station as the fast Glasgow bus for Town Centre, Village and Stewartfield. 201...

Ways to improve the First Glasgow Network

Eaglesham to EK is constantly requested to be more frequent and run later, but the only occupied seat would be the driver's.

Even if it stopped at every passenger's door I don't think it would have been used, but there would still have been tears and snotters when it was withdrawn.

How late are the buses you use most?

A scary thought is that Monday to Friday McGill's 3 is less frequent than Sunday Arriva 3 a decade ago!!

How late are the buses you use most?

Definitely. The only thing stopping Scottish Sunday bus services being pruned as much as England is that Scottish shops being open all day on Sundays generates just enough demand to make operation worthwhile.

Ways to improve the First Glasgow Network

If this thread was to be "if money was no object" then Clydebank to Braehead is fine. Sadly though, I have to agree that it won't work. Less people than ever use bus services. Whacky services like Arriva's 600 Airport to EK and First's 601 Braehead to EK are fun for the enthusiast and I've...

Unnecessarily long bus routes in the UK

374 got curtailed around 2005 would be my guess since I'm sure SN04 Darts ran on it at the end? Airport to Pollok was a commercial staple-on to facilitate driver changes in Paisley from Colchri's then Renfrew Westway depot. I don't know if Tony or Chris were in charge at that time. 395 is made...

Ways to improve the First Glasgow Network

I often used the Stagecoach 4 from City to Giffnock when big Rangers or Celtic matches were on. I could board at Buchanan, pay less and bypass the louts in the city and Shawlands who didn't know much about Stagecoach - so it could be that.

Ways to improve the First Glasgow Network

Go all out then. 6X Calderwood to Hairmyres normal stopping Express to City Expressway to Anniesland Normal stopping to Clydebank Will never happen though. FiG were quick to pull the X9/10 after inheriting them. Apart from the X8, 1C/D and X4 they're not keen on short expresses. They pulled...

Ways to improve the First Glasgow Network

Doigs use the M77 option for private hire work from most parts of EK. Not sure how stage carriages would fair going this way though.

How late are the buses you use most?

Also on this route an ALX400 T-CLO IIRC was allocated to a full length 757. The Kilbowie bridge was thought of so the decker only ran to Inchinnan Depot, but replacement bus was not ready so delays occurred. The same thing happened at Larkfield when a B7TL was assigned to a Barrhead run...

How late are the buses you use most?

McGill's 757 used to be horrendous from Paisley to Clydebank. Scheduled to take an hour but circa 2013 the Caetano Darts had repeated breakdowns on route. Passengers were forced to wait 30 minutes for the next full length. Giving 90 minute end to end instead of 60. Luckily one morning a Caetano...

Ways to improve the First Glasgow Network

Craig of Campbelltown would be a good fit for the 38 corridor. Create a luxury Citybus variant. "Premier by Glasgow CityBus" leather seats, USB etc. Silver livery. Mearns to City but serving a different route within G77. Mearns and to some extent EK are "7-7" bus towns. Commute by bus (maybe)...

Ways to improve the First Glasgow Network

For purely sadistic reasons, I always wished City Sprinter had extended to the council scheme in Newton Mearns  Sadly they didn't have the O disks. Remember the Stagecoach Blochairn 4A from Buchanan to Mearns circular in 2005? What a laugh that was.

That would be good, but the 3 tonne limit on Aurs Road would scupper the Barrhead option. Stagecoach could do something on this corridor with an express going to or via Mearns. They already have the 4 in that area for those who want a more leisurely pace.

Ways to improve the First Glasgow Network

Yeah if you wanted to make money, probably hourly. I think the X9/10 are proof of how this model might not work. Although the original Pollok Centre didn't draw crowds from G77... for some reason.

Ways to improve the First Glasgow Network

I can't see why all day operation of X78 wouldn't work, calling at Silverburn off-peak to provide G77 Concession Holders with a shopper's bus and extending to Glasgow Uni for students.

Unnecessarily long bus routes in the UK

The 374 used to run from Shawlands to Glasgow Airport via Clarkston, the old Pollok Centre and Paisley.

Unnecessarily long bus routes in the UK

Has anyone mentioned the 374 in Glasgow? http://www.spt.co.uk/cms/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/service-374-210818.pdf It takes a winding suburban route to connect two points (Silverburn and Shawlands) in as long as 1 hour 10 minutes peak time. First's Service 3 links these points in less than 20...
