    Toilets on trains

The new 398's on TfW will not have toilets. Thai had me thinking, where else are there trains, metro systems and tram systems in the UK which don't have toilets? I have come up with these, have I missed any? Merseyrail 777’s South Eastern commuter services. London Overground London...

    Chiltern Railway replacement stock

A tender has been issued for the replacement of Chiltern Railways stick. Surprisingly this is for either multiple units or coaches that can be diesel hauled. They are aiming for a 2024 driver training which is ambitious. Does anyone have thoughts on what MUs or coach stock is likely to be...

    Potential Grand Union stock?

The BBC news is reporting that Grand Union have been given the go ahead for Carmarthen to Paddington services to start. They have said in the article they expect to start services by the end of 2024. So what stock will they use? No way they will get 800 series stock built in less than two years...

Future uses for Renatus class 321s?

mods note - split from here The likelihood of any more 230's being sold are small. The 321 project is much more feasible and there is a potentially bigger market for those.

    Rail traction in the 1940's

How common were diesel and electric traction during World War 2 in the UK? My thoughts are that the significant majority of traction was steam powered with the exception of a few EMUs and diesel railcars. Any thoughts?

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

I can't find an open thread on these. Is there any news on them? I saw in a Tweet that some may be on test, if so has anyone seen any pictures. Until the depot is complete there seems no point in delivering them, but it would be good to keep up with progress.

Future uses for class 220s/221s and 222s?

mods note - split from this thread: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/222-4-car-sets-to-become-5-car-by-may-22.225822/ SWR to replace the aging 158's or South Eastern to work the Uckfield services. I think XC will get the Avanti ones.

    Vivarail exports to USA

Moderator note: Posts #1 - #12 originally in this thread One thing that came out with the issues with the 484's is that 230002 has been sold to an overseas buyer! Vivarail has been seriously honest over their issues and the fact they are testing 010 and have delivered 4 out of the 5 bodes well...
