150's. They belong in the cess pool of history.

We get either a 150 or 158 on our services but they seem to me to be allocated back to fronot. The 150s are on the Sheffields which is over an hour and the 158s on the currently truncated Knottingley of half an hour. This is not 100per cent but usually the case from my observation. Given a...

    Thames-Clyde Express in the 1970's

I saw The Thames Clyde many times in the late 50s at Bedford, where we lived. I also have in mind, I am 76 so the memory is not always the best, getting up early to see what we at least called the Starlight express which I believe was an overnight from Scotland. Can anyone confirm this or have...

Another landslip - Knottingley (Pontefract East area)

The local paper website now quoting the line will be open early May.

    Pacers on Long Distance Routes

My recollection of Lancaster to Leeds on a pacer was how much the front carriage would rise above the height of the trailing one. Then of course it would drop by the same amount. Definitely most prevalent before Settle Junction.

    GBRF 66 308

Thank you for the update. I will have to improve my search skills as I did look but obviously failed miserably.

    GBRF 66 308

I saw the Rylstone to Hull through Castleford today hauled by what looked like a newly painted 66 308. Am I right in assuming this is an import from Europe ? As far as I recall when I chased numbers the 66 300 series ended at 305 and these five locos were short lived in their original owners livery

More police misbehaviour: are they trying to deliberately wind the public up?

As someone who is 20 years away from my Policing career I find so much of this puzzling. In the case of new legislation then all operational staff must be briefed on what it is about and how to enforce it. This could be by way of training, briefing at the start of duty or perhaps an aide memoir...

More police misbehaviour: are they trying to deliberately wind the public up?

When they were first introduced in West York’s it was a 3 week course. It may have changed by now or vary on other forces. Constables carry out training throughout their first 2 years whilst they are known as Probationers.

More police misbehaviour: are they trying to deliberately wind the public up?

Doesn’t have an Officer style hat and the writing on her epaulettes looks as though it says PCSO I would take what is said with a large pinch of salt.

More police misbehaviour: are they trying to deliberately wind the public up?

It looks as though this is a Community Support Officer with limited training and not a Constable, often seen where I live making an ass of the job.

More police misbehaviour: are they trying to deliberately wind the public up?

You obviously know more about the facts of this case than the rest of us, or perhaps you are repeating facts as reported by Social Media. I would suggest waiting for the case to come to court to get the actual facts.

More police misbehaviour: are they trying to deliberately wind the public up?

If the arrested man had have been a Fireman for example would there still have been vigils? The occupation of this man is surely irrelevant as regards the issues raised around the safety of women and remembering the deceased.

More police misbehaviour: are they trying to deliberately wind the public up?

The fact that man charged is a serving officer is nothing to do with what is happening at the vigil. If anything the Police should be given credit for apparently clearing up this appalling crime promptly.

More police misbehaviour: are they trying to deliberately wind the public up?

There appears to be a lot of misunderstanding about the Police here. There are not any Unions for Police Officers. There is the Federation for officers up to Chief Inspector rank, a Superintendents Association and the Association of Chief Police Officers for the very top ranks. None of these is...

The End - Locos and rolling stock scrap line memories

That is certainly the type of Loco I recall. The location is the other side of Ampthill Road railway bridge from the present site of St John’s Station. However I don’t think this photo was taken in that location. Firstly the engine is at the end of a siding but is wrong in relation to the...

The End - Locos and rolling stock scrap line memories

Thank you for your efforts. I started school in 1953 and left that school on 1957 when we moved house. Whichever one it was it was there a long while. I was a spotter in that area up until 1961 but don’t recall anything smaller than a 4f as a tender engine in that area. That’s not to say they...

The End - Locos and rolling stock scrap line memories

My first school was at Ampthill Road, Bedford and at the back was the line from Bedford to Hitching. There were several sidings and at the end of one was an old 0-6-0 steam loco with a number beginning with 5. This stuck in my mind as it was the only loco with a 5 That I ever saw. I was at the...

No obligation to give name and address to police suspecting COVID violation

Section 25 of PACE 1984 covers powers of arrest for all those offences which are not classed under Section 24 as Arrestable Offences. It states where an offence has been committed but I am not sure that a lot of things being reported are actually offences, in which case a lot of these are not...

How many trains use the Doncaster avoiding line?

I lived quite close to the line between Knottingley and Pontefract a few years ago when it was busy with MGR trains. After a short time we didn’t even notice them and as a shift worker at the time they didn’t affect my sleep by either day or night
