    GWR PAYG

Almost all the time, they autocomplete. However there was one time when they were going to charge me and the online system wasn't working - I wrote to the Twitter team who asked me to phone. I had a very long conversation by phone and it turned out the person at the other end didn't know...

    GWR PAYG

The pay as you go area is expanding and the penalty for incomplete journeys is increasing. This was emailed to me today:

What is the point of Old Oak Common?

Is it too far for a corridor with travelators?

What is the point of Old Oak Common?

While I am in full support of stopping everything at OOC, your comment is contradictory. How much time will changing at OOC save vs Paddington for Heathrow - 15 minutes maybe? I'd be surprised if this persuades many to take the train to the airport who currently drive.

1S43: Why not calling at Arbroath Montrose and Stonehaven?

Ha Have any of the CrossCountry timings changed to reflect the reduced number of stops? Last time I checked, the Aberdeen-Penzance still took the same length of time.

What is the point of Old Oak Common?

With family in Scotland and in Yorkshire, HS2 delivered in full would make journeys much easier from Bristol and Chippenham, with a change at OOC. Avoiding slow CrossCountry trains or a change in London. OOC is for journeys like this, along with access to Crossrail, Heathrow Airport, etc...

GWR planning Saturday Bristol - Oxford service Sept to Dec 2024

Thanks for sharing - it only appears to save 10 minutes versus changing at Didcot. That being said extra trains are always welcome and we're looking forward to visits to Oxford and perhaps Bicester too with fewer changes. If successful, they'll provide valuable connections to East West Rail too

Visit to Aberdeen area - any more ideas?

This is the area I grew up in and I would highly recommend walking to the Castle and War Memorial there. If you still have a spare day it's worth exploring Aberdeen itself - you can walk along the harbour and go dolphin spotting or up to Footdee and walk along the seafront. The art gallery and...

    Delay Repay claims rejected

I once got 25p back for a journey between Montpelier and Shirehampton. Those Severn Beach line tickets are very cheap, especially with a railcard!

    Pedestrian underpasses and safety/desirability

Indeed - if the lights go red as soon as I press the button, surface crossings are good. If I have to wait, they're bad. I do think we should ban multi-stage crossings though-Pedestrians shouldn't be forced to wait in the middle of a road.

    Bristol Temple Meads works

I was under the impression the plan was to do away with the bus interchange and just keep the buses on the main road. Not great for bus users but I've generally found Temple Meads to be in an awkward position for the bus network anyway and in most cases I've walked, got a lift or continued my...

How do i appeal an LNER delay repay decision?

I've had to do this before with LNER and while time consuming, it worked in the end.

Stations justifying an additional platform if space permitted

Is Bath a bottleneck? There is talk of Bristol-Oxford trains via Bath plus Corsham and Wooton Bassett reopenings have been proposed in the past which would presumably require creation of additional services through Bath - is there room for these services?

Scotrail HSTs - 4-5 years in

Interesting - in my experience the local trains (used to be Aberdeen-Inverurie) were mostly empty and that was a 2-car 158!

    HS2 Old Oak Common

Old Oak Common will make it easier for those using GWR trains to reach Manchester, Scotland, Liverpool etc without having to transit through London so will speed up many journeys considerably.

Disused railways reinstatement or walking cycling routes

I recently cycled the Chippenham-Calne route. There's a lot of potential for commuting as it's a short distance and it finishes quite near Chippenham station and the town centre. However the path is not properly paved and muddy in places. It does feel like an afterthought. The Bristol-Bath path...

"Please avoid using any third party applications"

Given my own personal experiences with Network Rail and disability, and all I've heard from folks on Twitter back when I used that platform, I'd steer well clear from any of their assistance unless I absolutely needed it. You can't assume all disabled passengers are being zipped around in...

How many National Rail stations don't have gatelines? (estimates welcome)

The amount of times my valid tickets are rejected by gate lines would suggest we aren't ready for unstaffed gates here.

How many National Rail stations don't have gatelines? (estimates welcome)

In my experience ticket checking on these trains is pretty good. Chances are if you're travelling to Avonmouth your ticket will be scanned at least once along the way

How many National Rail stations don't have gatelines? (estimates welcome)

This really gets on my nerves. Barriers shouldn't be fitted if there's not enough room to fit enough for the number of people using the station. Weston and Bath both come to mind.
