150's. They belong in the cess pool of history.

Absolutely! Nothing better than engine roar blotting out that awful rap music, or people using their phones on speaker phone when having a not so private conversation. I'm starting to like 150s more and more. :)

Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

I'm assuming they'd reinstate Wadsley Bridge station, it'd be short sighted not too, plenty of football traffic could be picked up there as well.

    Google Map quirks

I first saw this on the satellite view on Google maps and thought, "That's bizarre". So I thought I'd Google the info for the station's history and yes, even the regular Google search concurs with the map. Oxspring station had the briefest of existences on the Woodhead line, opened in 1845 and...

150's. They belong in the cess pool of history.

The 150s are vastly superior to the 153 pieces of junk, awful trains they were. The 150s are miles worse than 158s/170s though. The 195s would be better if they got rid of the tables and had adequate number of carriages and seats.

Cross Country cutting out Winchester and Basingstoke stops

I did the trip from Sheffield to Winchester many years ago, I was hoping to go again one day, when the direct services to Southampton ever reappeared. Looks like even if the do come back they'll stop short and then not call there anyway. With the state of the railways of late I hate having to...

True, seems there's more chance of getting the Metrolink extended over Woodhead to Beighton then... ;)

    trivia oldest and newest together

Just out of interest are there any examples of say 1830s era stock being used in the 1890s/1900s? - Even up the grouping perhaps? So much focus on the transition to BR maybe we're missing earlier examples.

Gresleys might have missed the 313s, but 312s were pretty new in 1975, any chance of those crossing paths?

    trivia oldest and newest together

Are there any where the coaches are older than the locos? I've seen a few photos of say a B1 or B17 hauling ex-GCR or ex-MSL carriages.

Even that would be a vast improvement on the bus service.

Trivia: Rarest BR locos to survive into preservation

DMU wise - Metrocammell Lightweights, and classes 112, 113 & 125. EMUs would be a much longer list, but some extinct classes are: 304, 305, 506.

It wasn't unknown for it to be a single 153 either.

Trivia: Rarest BR locos to survive into preservation

If units are allowed as well then the class 109. Five sets built, one made it to preservation.

Trivia: Rarest BR locos to survive into preservation

Class 77 were a rare class - 7 built. 3 have survived into preservation - a good survival rate.

Trivia: Rarest BR locos to survive into preservation

I don't know what makes it a more fortunate survivor. A prototype loco being a one off already would more or less guarantee a short life you'd think. However, if it's unique and survives then that a 100% survival rate. Compared with a more numerous class that was just scrapped en mass. So class...
