    Assessments & Medicals discussion

Applied for Shunter Driver (Same medical standard as driver I believe) on 50mg Sertraline and it was ok’d at the medical. They will ask a few questions but that’s about it. It’s viewed on a case by case basis so bear that in mind.

    Trainee Driver Pass Out Rate

Passing out isn’t the final hurdle, you still have to keep your nose clean. Seen too many get complacent and end up getting a damaged SoL record or worse.

    45 minute travel time limit

Once you get the job nothing is stopping you from moving further away, quite common for the London-based depots as housing is more affordable in outer London.

London Overground - Trainee Train Driver - New Cross Gate (15/11/23)

It could be possible that he failed the VSE. It’s worded poorly but that’s what I presume the “check with the OPC” refers to. Interestingly the email sent out says: “If you have previously sat and passed/failed the OPC, you will still need to attend. The assessment will take place at…” which...

London Overground - Trainee Train Driver - New Cross Gate (15/11/23)

From experience I struggled to get any replies from that email address. The email that got sent out was from someone within the company with a non-so generic email address so I assumed replying to their email would have sufficient.

London Overground - Trainee Train Driver - New Cross Gate (15/11/23)

Yeah I had the same for part 1, exactly the same errors each time. I haven’t taken the test before so I can’t comment as to whether it’s supposed to be different or not.

London Overground - Trainee Train Driver - New Cross Gate (15/11/23)

All the info you need is in the email. It offers a practice paper and the tests have a practice run before they start (not the final stage though) Make sure you use a PC with a mouse.

Invites for the VSE are being sent out. Good luck!

Pretty sure it’s a permanent bar, but don’t quote me on that.

RDG response to RMT's recent "road map" proposal.

I wonder if an all-out strike is on the cards for RMT? Granted it’s a bit of a gamble as it could be expensive for the workers if the government still doesn’t cave in.

Dilemma - Tube driver or office job?

Shift work you can easily plan around and in some ways it can be better than a 9-5 job if you can get used to it and have your own transport. The work/life balance is pretty good if you can get used to shift work. Despite the holiday blocks it is fairly flexible as you will have other drivers...

Balfour Beatty ETCS Cover Driver/Operator - anyone shed light?

Not sure why a qualified driver would take up this role, it will almost certainly be a downgrade in terms of conditions & pay.

Arriva Rail London - Trainee Driver - New Cross Gate / Willesden (19/06/23)

It’s all well documented on this forum. Group Bourdon, TEA-OCC, VSE, ATAVT, Vigilance test, MMI. They will also send practice materials once you are booked in. I recommend looking for the Group Bourdon Tool and printing off sheets of paper to practice looking for the 4 dots.

    Freightliner - Trainee Drivers (05/12/22)

Don’t know if you’ve done this already but use the GB tool. It’s like the test, print out as sheets of paper and time yourself. Link is below: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/group-bourdon-tool.156417/

    Sertraline

It varies as every case is different. But from experience (I take it too), No further investigation was needed in my case with the safety critical medical. They will obviously ask questions regarding suicidal thoughts, your mood, why you were prescribed them, side effects, what you are doing to...

    BMI 34. Pass driver medical?

If you suffer from weight-related problems like T2 diabetes, heart issues, high BP, mobility, sleep apnea, etc then you may get referred for further investigation. Otherwise if you are overweight but healthy then you should have nothing to worry about.

Arriva Rail London - Trainee Driver - New Cross Gate / Willesden (19/06/23)

Quoted time frame to hear back is 2-4 weeks, so there’s still hope. Bear in mind they have thousands of applications to sift through.

Arriva Rail London - Trainee Driver - New Cross Gate / Willesden (19/06/23)

That’s the online VSE (I think). They make all applicants take it to thin the herd.

You should have just applied for this campaign.

    Decline in UK bus services

Buses were never meant to be profitable, they were supposed to provide a service to the public, regardless if it’s a loss making journey or not. Sadly it’s up to the private businesses to decide if the route runs based purely on profitability, not whether there is a need for it. We only have...
