Can I use the Manchester Wayfarer between Warrington station and Northwich (via bus)?

About 15-20 years ago I emailed both GMPTE (as TfGM was) and Warrington Borough Transport (now WOB) to ask the same question. GMPTE said no, WBT said yes. I suspect that as WBT ran so little outside of the Wayfarer area they thought it would be simpler for their drivers if they just accepted...

    Whitby Bus X93

The tickets are mentioned in the 2022 edition of the X93/X94 timetable along with an inter-available day ranger from the Teesside end. I would assume they feature in this years edition too, but I've not got a copy. Jeff

Class 230 units training/introduction on the Borderlands line: updates

I caught 230007 on that trip as far as Heswall where it picked up further passengers and carried on, so something is clearly amiss with the RTT data. Was due to terminate at Wrexham General anyway as the next round trip was showing as cancelled due to lack of crew. Jeff

Class 230 units training/introduction on the Borderlands line: updates

230007 is out today and has been out at least once before. 230006 appears to be missing some gen sets. Jeff

Park & Ride on the Merseyrail

A recently put-up paper notice in the ticket office at Newton-le-Willows advises that overnight parking is allowed for rail users. I've done it a couple of times without issue. Jeff

Bridge at Whaley Bridge to be replaced early 2023

Don't forget that the shuttle bus also acts to provide a service to people through Chapel to connect with the diverted 199 and/or access Whaley Bridge. Jeff

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

I listed the ones in service today, so you can infer reasonalby from this what was out of use: Liverpool Central - Kirkby: 507017, 507019, 508128 [EDIT - 508130 reported at replacing 508128 later in the day per MR-507508's post above] Liverpool Central - Ormskirk: 507001, 570002, 507013...

1122 Cardiff - Holyhead today (01/02/22) operated by a pair of 153s? (TfW Premier Service issues)

It had been delayed on the 0645 Cardiff to Hollyhead courtesy of significant disruption attributed variously to a level crossing barrier failure near Prestatyn or a power failure (or more likley the latter leading, among other things, to the former), hence the late start from Holyhead. I...

Class 230 units training/introduction on the Borderlands line: updates

Almost certainly 230007. It was being detached from 230006 when I passed through this morning. The latter was fired up briefly (and smokily) prior to the detachment. Jeff

Trivia: Services calling twice at the same station

Circa 20 years ago, there was a Transpennine service Mon-Sat that ran Manchester Airport (1730 ish) - Middlesbrough (2020 ish) before continuing up the coast to Newcastle, calling at Thornaby twice. IIRC there was an equivalent morning service in the opposite direction, too. Jeff

Passengers getting confused by different TOCs or liveries.

I've experienced the same thing while on a Merseyrail-spec 142 on the 0935ish Sunday morning Man Picc - Sheffield service, where some chap in a suit with a large suitcase dived aboard just as the doors were about to shut. As we reached the end of the platform, he asked "is this the London...

    South Yorkshire Travelmaster tickets

A sight aside, but it is worth noting that there is now an all-day version of the West Yorkshire bus & train day rover available via the recently introduced "M Card Mobile" app* at £13.80 (there are slightly cheaper options if you use fewer rail zones but still with countywide bus). This all-day...

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Had my first rides on some of Northern's 769s yesterday. Quite impressed, with performance reasonably good (certainly better than I had expected) and a pleasantly "meaty" sound from the diesel engines. I note that the end carriages have had the seating capacity reduced in the centre section...

Entire 800/801/802 fleet stood down for safety checks

TPE have managed to get an 802 out for the delayed 1142 Newcastle to Liverpool albeit showing to terminate at York. Looked very well loaded through Chester le Street. A little while earlier a pair of 185s did a York-Newcastle.

Northern rail 142 from September the 14th

Saturdays look a bit different to weekdays if today is anything to go by. 142065 did 0556 Chester to Manchester then (locked out of use) 0945 Stockport to Stalybridge. Neither New Mills diagram has one one not any other Chester I saw, but all three Victoria to Kirkby diagrams feature 142s with...

    Delay repay with M Card

Given what I was reading here I was sceptical but TPE have just paid out delay repay of £4.50 against a £9.00 West Yorkshire bus and train day rover (issued as an M card branded scratch card from a bus station) after I was caught up in the chaos near Mirfield a couple of Saturdays ago and...
