    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

Seems to hold up fine on the 172s and they get pretty wedged at peak times

    Request stops

Somebody should probably tell the traincrew...

    Drivers v Signallers

There were a couple of signals affected by foliage on one of my routes last summer and I think this is what they implemented until the offending foliage was cut back.

    Request stops

Claverdon and Bearley are request stops for WMR but not for Chiltern. The ones along the North Warwickshire line (Danzey, Wood End, The Lakes, Wootton Wawen) are no longer request stops as of last May.

    Drivers v Signallers

No, they aren't approach controlled signals. Just regular controlled signals that occasionally get left on. Seems it's just good fortune that the signaller will sometimes spot it before you ping them a 'standing at signal'.

    Drivers v Signallers

Question for the signallers on this subject actually... Quite often when I come to this situation (approaching a mystery red), the signal will clear as I'm rolling up to it, before I've brought the train to a stand and/or hit the SG. Do you get an automated message on the workstation that a...

When the slow line becomes the fast line

A points failure at Kings Norton yesterday has meant the Up Fast has been out of use beyond Longbridge. Many Cross City services usually get overtaken by XC and WMR Hereford services while they're on the slows between Longbridge and Kings Norton, otherwise the fast train gets stuck behind the...

    Lineside yellow cylinder???

Can't for the life of me think whether they've got a yellow barrel too - I think probably not, actually - but you also have traction gel applicators which, during the autumn, apply a paste to the railhead that gets spread along the rail by the passage of trains to improve railhead adhesion.

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

Overtime ban this week. If it ain't on the job card, it ain't happening.

Aslef strikes and OT ban called…

I expect they'll take the easy option, which is try and run something along the lines of the limited service that runs when the RMT have been on strike.

Aslef strikes and OT ban called…

Everyone knows (staff, government, anyone who has been paying attention) we're going to get the same as the RMT but these clowns are intent on dragging it out a few weeks longer and causing a bit more damage to the economy before they admit to it.

West Midlands Class 323 - the final countdown

Oh joy. The Redditch trains are always the busiest leaving New Street because of the 20 minute gap between the previous (Bromsgrove) service and then. Look forward to that... Hopefully won't be for too long though.

Storm Babet disruption - Saturday 21/10

RTT showing no trains beyond Whitlocks End until at least Tuesday. That flooding at Wood End must have done a decent amount of damage.

    WMR Cancellations/Problems

There's 4 (ex-)Chiltern 172/1s. Think it was a temporary move at first but was made permanent. They've all got WMR livery but still have (rather dark and tatty) Chiltern interior and could do with a good refurb inside.

Rolling stock which is "stored" at a station platform overnight.

There's also a double set stabled at Redditch and Four Oaks overnight as well as 350s at International.

    Liverpool to Birmingham

I guess it's not too bad if the second Liverpool is coming back (assuming it's a decent connection at Stafford). Is it permanent or just until Darlo and Willenhall open and/or while 730 training happens?

Future of Ticket Office Consultations launched

That isn't exactly what's happening though. For example, WMT are retaining staff at a handful of stations and replacing all their other staff with 'a mobile team'. I guess anyone who needs assistance needs to hope that their trip coincides with the time that the 'bloke in a van' is at their...

    New Station calendar

    Ticket office closures

Yeah redeploying them in a more generic station role sounds like nonsense to me because a) it saves no money b) staff at smaller stations (the ones that haven't already lost their ticket offices) already tend to do a bit of everything - sell tickets, passenger assistance, keep the place tidy...
